what's YOUR personal CPI?

  1. i did include insurance in my CPI even though i didn't list it.

    my home owner's insurance is less;

    my health insurance is 10% more but overall it's a tiny piece of my expenditures, so 10% is insignificant

    i omitted my auto insurance because i bought another car, so the change would be hard to qualify

  2. Indeed, health insurance hikes are astounding. Anyone who is trading full time will encounter this-- and I've had higher than 15%.

  3. my policy has gone up 37% in 4 years, which is 8% compounded annually. that includes the increase that's coming this spring. not everyone is seeing double-digit increases like you guys.

    when the economy improves, the rate increases should slow down as more people join the pool

    "Supermarket surprise: smaller servings, same price"

    "No, members of your household aren't being wasteful or taking extra helpings of dessert. Those boxes of pasta, rolls of paper towels, jars of pesto and packages of hot dogs really are getting smaller. But manufacturers hope that you haven't noticed."

    It's kind of like devaluing currency - the item looks the same as before, but it's actually less.
