Exactly right. Canadian prosperity is hugely dependent on its trade relationship (the worlds largest) with the United States. When America goes broke, Canada will suffer a gigantic hit. Nice name
Why allude to the draft when the author herself stated the draft is drastically different from the actual report? Wasteful spending is wasteful spending, no matter how big the dollar amount. That much I agree with. But it alone is not nearly a big enough amount to paint the Conservative party with the brush of being chronic wasteful spenders. That spot is reserved for the Liberals (adscam, national daycare program, carbon tax) or even the NDP (huge government, total socialist society).
How unfortunate for you. When I leave my door unlocked, I usually come home to find the place vacuumed and dusted, with a hot meal set at the table, my laundry folded, and a chocolate mint on my pillow. I love Canada and enjoy living here, but let's not get carried away.
It seems that the things Canada must be on guard against (Oh, Canada we stand on guard for thee!) are exactly the same things that are slowly deteriorating the quality of life in the USA. The list is long but might be distilled into a few key features: 1) Creeping obsolescence of the constitution and disregard for the personal protections that are enshrined in it. 2) A dichotomous legal system where the wealthy and poor have vastly different avenues of redress available. 3) a. An endless avalanche of burdonsome laws unevenly enforced, or not enforced at all. Every problem, no matter how significant, being the subject of a new law; b. Unsuccessfully attempting to regulate human behavior by criminalizing acts where the only victims are consenting adults and thus clogging the courts and prisons; c. A dysfunctional criminal justice system and rampant police corruption. 4) Uncritical acceptance of any argument based on safety or national security. 5) An absurd tax code, too complex to be understood by those who are charged with enforcing it. 6) Legislative bodies that routinely put narrow special interests of patrons above the broader interests of the electorate. 7) A poorly educated electorate. 8) An out of control military-industrial complex. 9) A consumer medical care system run by a cartel and protected by vastly excessive government regulation. 10) A unshakable belief in superiority. This is always the first step in the decay process of any company, organization, institute, government entity, or nation. The problems are all well understood and effective remedies are known for every problem. It is not the existence of these defects, but the lack of resolve to remedy them that will, after many years of slow decay, eventually destroy a nation. It can even be argued that human nature assures the eventual downfall of any large nation. If that is the case, then it is only the rate of decay we can alter with our paltry efforts.
I gave you a list of items where the Conservatives were chronic wasteful spenders. You stated that I had no other examples, so I gave an additional list where they were chronic and wasteful spenders. The Liberals paid down the debt for 13 years. All of that money is now gone. Anything bad that you (or I) could say about them has to be in the context that they are, in fact, fiscal Conservatives. The NDP haven't written any budgets so I'll reserve judgement.
Well I can see this is just going to go around in circles. The Liberals paid down debt...debt that they themselves accumulated. This is the same as you bashing the Conservatives for paying down debt that they've accumulated. I have no idea how you can say with a straight face that the Liberal party are fiscal conservatives. Even Liberal supporters don't make this assertion. Their platform consists of more spending and higher taxes. This is a fact, not my opinion.
Technically, yes. But when the deficit can no longer be financed outright, except through monetization, that's when the STHF. That has yet to occur. Canada will take it real hard when that happens.
The NDP will probably have the budget written on recycled paper. That will be their contribution for the year.
Lets all sing Canada National Anthem: à Canada! ᐆ ᑲᓇᑕ! ᓇᖕᒥᓂ ᓄᓇᕗᑦ! ᐱᖁᔭᑏ ᓇᓚᑦᑎᐊᖅᐸᕗᑦ. ᐊᖏᒡᓕᕙᓪᓕᐊᔪᑎ, ᓴᙱᔪᓗᑎᓪᓗ. ᓇᖏᖅᐳᒍ, ᐆ ᑲᓇᑕ, ᒥᐊᓂᕆᑉᓗᑎ. ᐆ ᑲᓇᑕ! ᓄᓇᑦᓯᐊ! ᓇᖏᖅᐳᒍ ᒥᐊᓂᕆᑉᓗᑎ, ᐆ ᑲᓇᑕ, ᓴᓚᒋᔭᐅᖁᓇ!
