The idea that the potential profits are minuscule here is almost certainly wrong. Obviously it depends on how ES reacts to the method being traded on any size, but it could easily produce over $1M per year. CL profits are probably more limited.
I'm thinking it's pointless to answer questions already answered in the OP. Especially when the person asking is confused as to what information I'm seeking. I DO NOT WANT HELP EVALUATING THE VALUE OF THE EDGE. I know how to do that just fine, thanks. The question is how best to turn an edge with this profile into cash in my pocket.
An interesting idea, but I'm not sure if it's feasible. The indicator driving the method is looking for some very specific things in the tape. There's a limited time period after they occur when I can predict price with decent accuracy. It's not obvious how I would extend that time period if nothing else of interest comes across the tape. If I could figure out how, I certainly would. My current experiment is whether rates on 5min bars have the same sorts of features as ES, CL, GC on 1 minute bars. No opinion on that yet.
Keep your job. Automate (keep track of P&L with mobile TWS or a custom app). Scale up if it continues to work. Scale down or stop if it doesn't. Post your results in a journal thread - it could be interesting. Reflect on fair criticism (assume it's fair until you're sure it's not). The best of luck to you.
I'm pondering the automation thing. Problem is, I wouldn't be very comfortable with it trading without me nearby. Computers crash, respond badly to erroneous inputs, programs can have bugs etc. Automation could certainly help make sure I don't miss trades even if I have to babysit it, which would be valuable in and of itself.
The opinion is the fractal nature of the market,so you can easily do that on a higher frames what you do on the smaller ones.Don`t try to compete with bots on the 1-5 min scale. There`s no money there for you.
Pound that 401k hard to the tune of 10% salary pre-tax. 8+ years at your rising professional level and you probaly have something there already. Up to 50% loan usual. Pay yourself back with interest at your own pace. Not saying this is smart... Just saying its a way to access money. In the longer run few stay at their company for a long. When you leave your present company the 401k is yours to trade that which does not require borrowing. Futures.
I'm doing just fine against the bots so far... And while bar charts may appear somewhat fractal, the tape clearly is not.
