It depends on where it will be deployed and who will be using it. For American forces, the HKs and FN SCAR are state of the art. For third worlders, AKs are still the standard. They're vastly cheaper, tons of cheap ammo is readily available and they require basically no maintenance. Any idiot can be taught to operate one in 15 minutes.
Just don't buy a cheap 100 round circular feeder for your HK. It might jam on you while your're at the movies. :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:
