What?

  1. Whereas you see such racist commentary as the noble thing that it is, right? Let people be bigots, let them spew hate, let them talk about segregation. Let them demonize an entire group or groups of people with one broad brush, and you'll sit back contentedly and marvel at the beauty of their freedom. But heaven forbid that someone should respond sarcastically to your vacuity. That is when the outrage begins. You regard it to be so...uncivilized. Shouldn't you be rejoicing at my freedom?

I'll try to explain it to you one last time. After that, if you still don't understand my position, there isn't anything I can do about it.

You (and anyone else) has a right to say whatever you wish (in my opinion). Of course, that doesn't mean I support the content (I don't support TGregg's comments), just the right to say it. In regards to your jerk persona online, I simply said that if you want civil discussion, you have to be civil. If all you're going to do is try to get an insult or jibe into the discussion, then I'll respond in kind and stop trying to have civil discourse with you. Some users are incapable of remaining civil.

But I support your right to be a jerk. I would just prefer it wasn't all the time. Unfortunately, that isn't up to me.

Enjoy your day, and as usual, have the last word.

  3. So Tgregg is being less of a jerk with his repeated and ongoing bigoted rants? Along with the other like-minded deep thinkers in P&R? Well, that's...informative. You take more exception to me than to him and his gentle soul.

Here's the thing, Tsing. You reap what you sow. You say something silly or ill-advised and you will get called on it. And I'm not likely to bow deeply before doing so. Action - reaction. Do I need to do a search showing where you enter exchanges showing little or no respect? Meanwhile, you want to be treated with reverence? When you align yourself with stupid opinions, you need to see it coming. I do my best to give the people in P&R the respect they deserve. It's one thing when someone presents a considered opinion different from my own. Its' quite another when they present stupidity, or worse, arrogant stupidity.

And sometimes, I just like to have a bit of harmless fun. Because we're here to pass the time. You should try it.

That's where you and I are different. I don't mind when I get insulted. Maybe I deserved it, maybe not. If not, I'll respond in kind. So what? But I don't tolerate lowbrow bigotry or arrogant stupidity very well. You seem to be the opposite. So long as they're not insulting you, all is well with the world. Your pals Tgregg, Clubber Lang et al are looking to build a time machine to go back to the Old South. And you just can't help but get along with them so well.

Great picture of me, by the way. Hidden camera?

  6. Perhaps our resident leftists need to watch this left leaning movie which was heralded by many a left wing person. Specifically at 1:00 to 1:30 for the topic of this thread.

  7. Wow. I didn't know that ET was...America. I thought it was a privately-owned web site with Terms of Use that may differ from the actual Constitution. :)

You can apply this video to a lot of conversations in the P+R thread. Many on the left no longer follow what they once preached as "tolerance". But this thread is about a person who wrote a very unpopular and off-color remark in a forum where those remarks had long been tolerated, and a "sign" put up to warn people that they might be offended when entering that forum.

Then along came an individual who was, in fact, offended and had petitioned the management of the site on a whole host of issues in the past, including threatening to sue if management did not remove his posts and account (then subsequently said he'd leave over and over) and screamed loud enough that management finally decided it wasn't worth the argument.

If Baron truly was in agreement with his decision and not just trying to mitigate the fallout from previously mentioned user then he would have acted long ago to stop these types of comments being made - for this was not the first from TGregg, or from other users.

But the above that stresses Freedom of Speech does not apply to private businesses, forums, etc. If Baron wants to ban the word "Fuzzy" from his forums, he can do so and that is that.

A point which I made not too long ago. He also has the right to decide, perhaps on the grounds of "religious liberty", that he's not going to admit registrants who are named after beer, feminine hygiene products, anatomical parts, etc.
