Subaru is a very overlooked, technologically advanced brand. I never heard of anybody complaining about their Subaru. I have a friend that says his BMW maintenance costs are horrendous.

I had a Camaro. I could get engines from the junk yards, a friend would find crashed cars with newly rebuilt engines and it was $1300 installed and running! $1000 or so in the suspension and another few hundred in tires and I was very, very good to go... Camaros are incredibly underrated, 1G turns, incredible crashworthiness...

I guess Camaro says "thug" about it's owner, I prefer "pragmatic" LOL

it certainly can beat any car on maintenance cost.:D

what kind of fluids are changing for $1K? oil change on MB(9.5 Qt of mobil full synthetic 0-40 European formula cost 6.7$ walmart. + 10-15$ for a filter). coolant-you have to change every 15(yes 15) years. top of the line Fuchs transmission fluid cost about 14$ for a bottle. even if you change 10 L it's still $140. the rest of your money go to your friendly stealership. :p

I like the 300+ horsepower, and I also like the luxurious interior.

This is not exactly my car, but it's the same model and color.

  8. BMW, MB, Audi... all have horrendous maintenance and repair costs.

The Subie is a competent little hauler and quite nice all around.

not at all,if you are DIY person and you follow maintenance schedule meticulously. those things build to last.can't speak for for BMW or audi, but on MB forums everything is so organized and explained(with pictures and step by step instructions)-the cave man can do it.
if you buy a used car-all common problems are known and described already. here is typical example-got camshaft position sensor failure on MB.sounds scary, isn't?called to the dealer ship for a price of OEM part (asked how much it would cost to replace, because i already know the problem, diagnosed with $12 scanner).
answer-$900-1200 and 2 hours job.DIY-10 min work and $20 sensor from ebay. it's only one easy to reach torx bolt on top of the engine. that's it. most of the price shock comes from how much they charge for the work(and they tend to add more time than actually needed it by the book). it can be from $150 to 200 and up for an hour.we are in wrong business boys. :)

to OP- sorry, i mean $6.7 per Qt.

  10. Had an Audi which had a 2nd clutch failure (after only 8,500 miles on the clutch) under original 3-yr warranty. (I believe it was because Audi outsourced the pressure plate to China to save $20.) Anyway, dealer wanted $3,900 to replace the clutch... including 10 hrs labor @ $175/hr. Originally Audi denied paying for the 2nd clutch, but I threatened to take my case to the AG of Michigan. Audi caved and paid for it. $3,900 to replace a pressure plate?? Sheesh!
