What world is Elaine Chow in?

  1. I was alluding to the current level of government debt (and the acceleration of current and near future federal budget deficits for that matter) for which you would need a lot of zeroes (doughnuts) to enumerate.

  2. Taterman are you serious or do you believe all the CNN bull! What are the assets of the U.S. Government worth (federal land, roads, buildings, etc. etc. etc), maybe 35 to 40 trillion. The U.S. government could sell off 3 to 4 trillion in land in no time and cut the deficit in half, but why. It is time to start cutting the size of the U.S. government, not hold the increase in growth to 4 or 5 percent annually. I'm talking 3% a year in an actually reduction in the size of the U.S. government (not all military cuts like clinton) over the next 5 years or more. Then as the economy grows and tax revenues increases the U.S. deficit will start to shrink again. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY CONSISTENT REDUCTION IN THE U.S. DEFICIT WITH OUT REDUCING THE SIZE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though I'm a Republican/Libertarian, I had much respect for the candor of Robert Reich. More than once during the Clinton bull run on jobs, I would hear Reich comment after the payroll number that he was still disappointed that much of the job creation each month was in service as opposed to manufacturing. He often was humble if not depreciating during the best economic data.

  4. Ok, I say we put the "red states" on the auction block first.

    Opening bid to you.

  5. when showing fellow human concern for the families on the nightly and business news on the negative side of these stories is:
    1) having an axe to grind
    2) jealous of ....... administration
    3) shrill??
    4) typos and spelling problems?/???

then perhaps you're absolutely ...... whatever.

Point is none of your commentary deals with the problem, just attacking this thread, and perhaps, in an infintile manner, trying to attack me......

Hey, when things improve, then we'll close this thread

  6. they are definitely playing down the unemployment, but they have good reason. The Dems are trying to latch onto high unemployment in order to justify more socialist policies.

  7. That's funny, my cousin is married to Elaine's sister...

If her view is anything like her sister (who used to be on Pataki's cabinet), then I'm sure she's frustrated with the Gov't as much as you are. Who wouldn't be frustrated with a system where you can't fire lazy, unproductive workers because the unions have them protected? Elaine is a capitalist just like every one of us is. Her father runs one of the most successful shipping companies in the world. But that's the system of government...and that's one reason that I stay as far away from politics as I can...can't stand the inefficiency. (At least you can profit off of market inefficiency, right?)

  8. It is basic that employment is a lagging indicator. The uptick in the unemployment rate reflected a large addition to those looking for work, think that might have something to do with school being over for the year? Some "discouraged" jobseekers also may have registered to look for work. Statistically, it gives you a rising rate but in real terms it means nothing.

I am sick of hearing all this "worst economy since the last time we thought we could lie to voters and get away with it." The Great Depression was not a joke. The severe recession in the '70's was much worse. 20% interest rates, higher unemployment and gas lines. Today is nothing, believe me.

Republicans are skillfully manipulating the media in order to keep average folks from realizing that the administration's policies benefit only the top 5-10% while everyone else falls farther behind. Ms. Chow's clumsy attempts to spin things during her monthly interviews are laughable.

    http://www.hardboiled.org/4.4/44-04-chow.html

Note, she has been married to Mitch McConnell since 1993...

The Bush tax cuts which will sustain huge deficits forever will eventually crash our economy.

Many of our tenants are regular working people, and they are really struggling. They also did not benefit nearly as much as the top 5-10% did from the boom of the 1990's. Note, inequality has grown dramatically in the U.S. since the bogus trickle down economics of Reagan. If Republican policies such as those Bush has pushed through continue, be ready to live in a country of even greater poverty. Think "third world", with large terribly dangerous slums and a very small middle class.

  10. When I saw Elaine Chow get into that "pissing" contest with Mark Haines on CNBC one morning a few months back, with her remark that she knows how to read economic statistics cause she has a Harvard MBA.....

I almost blew my cornflakes back out my nose!

What a freaking piece of work she is.
    The ultimate SPIN-MEISTER!!!
