    Normally I would say gold, but it seems to have had its run-up.

    You’re probably thinking of something else.

    During catastrophic times like the years long siege of Sarajevo, disposal lighters retrofitted to be refillable were the best tradable item.

    Small, easily carried, easily concealed. They could be traded for anything, guns, ammo, food, water, alcohol, etc.

    Fire source is very important.

    All Hindu religious ceremonies have fire at the center of it.

    In the current downturn since 2/19/25, XLP & XLV are the winners. In theory XLRE & XLU should do well but if rates were to spike they won't do well. Rates don't really effect XLP & XLV much.

    XLP+XLV == +3.25%
    SPY == -4.60%

    When Trump put on the lumber tariffs term one it led to a massive rally in Cdn lumber stocks. I've been doing well on commodity stocks this month ( copper, silver; even some Oil stocks bounced hard on positive news ). Not entirely sure how it will play out but it can be traded.

  8. Exactly, Doomsday Prepers never seem to understand that humanity is past the point of revolution. The powers that have made sure that the boat doesn't tip too much. Gold is good! Rice can be kept for a very long time. Toilet paper is a must. Being a cheap bastard comes in handy when times are lean.

    It is an interesting theory. It reminds me of the book The End of History. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_End_of_History_and_the_Last_Man
    "The End of History and the Last Man is a 1992 book of political philosophy by American political scientist Francis Fukuyama which argues that with the ascendancy of Western liberal democracy—which occurred after the Cold War (1945–1991) and the dissolution of the Soviet Union (1991)—humanity has reached "not just... the passing of a particular period of post-war history, but the end of history as such: That is, the end-point of mankind's ideological evolution and the universalization of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government."[1]
    Did it happen? I don' think so.

    As to the current outlook I don't think that the boat is in equilibrium and severe shockwaves are coming.

    A one-way airline ticket to Canada, while you still can, or a well-provisioned sailboat capable of ocean crossings.
