What the health

  1. Wow, I just heard your mind slam shut as though it were your anal sphincter.

I am not running a remedial course here. Let's turn it around a little. Do some basic research and let me know where you fall short. Otherwise, it is a standard finding in almost all major longevity research studies.

The same old mistake of correlation =/= causation

Since you failed to provide evidence, (and I did a counter example) you by default lost this one. But believe what you want, and tell me again the ISIS members' longevity?

Oh yeah, I have an even better one: Americans are way more religious than most of the Western countries, yet Americans are the fattest nation. Beside being overweight is clearly not good for your health, I could argue using your logic that religion makes you fat?

Keith is deeply religious and attends church 3 times a week, that is why his health is still good despite of smoking, drinking and drugs. Also probably good genes, like Ozzy's...

Oh yeah and he eats Australian beef...

  5. You seem to be fragile.

For others who want to do some general reading on the topic of culture, diet, faith, as they realate to longevity, National Geo, has put together a fairly good publication which looks at so-called Blue Zones around the world- communities that have great longevity. The reading that can be done on the topic is endless but it could be an okay place to start.

You know what, I actually changed my mind. Not because of you, but because I googled the issue. And as usual I was right, correlation/causation and other silly things:

"It’s also true, researchers say, that people who regularly attend religious services enjoy a boost in their happiness. However, research findings don’t agree on how much of the benefit is religious and how much derives from the benefits of social networking and being with other like-minded people.

It just puts people in touch with like-minded congregants,” he says, and thus produces many of the benefits of a strong social network. “It’s a period of time when you can actually connect with others and you’re not alone in your beliefs.”

To identify a deity “bonus,” though, is much harder. “You have to break it down into components and look at religious activities and religious beliefs,” he explains, “and you have to look at them during times of stress. Is it the activity? If so, which kind of activity? Is it the belief? If so, is it [a belief in] life after death” or some other belief?"

In plain English, per se it is not the being a believer that helps with longevity, but certain dietary restrictions, leading a moderate lifestyle and being among friends and people with similar beliefs.

TL;DR: You don't have to be a Mormon to live long, as long as you don't smoke, moderately consume alcohol and caffein and you are a member of a chessclub or singing choir. And eat Australian beef! :)

I have been on a vegan diet for 4 days and can feel a huge difference instantly. Clearer mind, more energy, better sleep and one wipe only for #2 if I wanted to that is. Only thing I cheat on is the egg white and a splash of organic whole milk in my coffee. Going to keep at it to see where it goes...will update sometime in the future...peace.

As my trainer might say, you don't put diesel into a supercar.
