Strawman fallacy. The kids in the bible were not serial killers. They simply didnt listen to their parents and got drunk. Do you support KILLING people like this? Yes or no. peace axeman
This does not answer the question... youy dodged it AGAIN. I did NOT ask about implementation issues. I asked: WHY DID GOD CHANGE HIS OWN LAWS. Did he realize HE made an error and was WRONG??????????????? peace axeman
I support that killing if there were extenuating circumstances which there undoubtedly were. This obviously isn't the whole story as even Noah was drunk. C'mon - give the Jewish people a little credit! They obviously weren't going to execute their kids for every small thing. The whole race would have died out if that was the case!
There are many reasons it could change. For example, the Law allowed divorce in certain cases. Jesus said that was only because the people of that generation were stubborn. In other words, God is VERY practical. He prescribed Law for that period of time as I've said a million times over. You cannot pull it out of space and time... Laws that would apply to a few million largely ethnically and religiously homogenous people do NOT apply to people that live in a widely diverse, non-homogenous society. I don't know how else I can say it more clearly.
Oh bullshit. No way were the Jews "one of the most successful nationalities in history". Ever heard of the Egyptians? The Greeks? The Romans? The Arabs? The Turks? The Russians? The Mongols? The Chinese? The Spanish? The Portuguese? The British? Holy freaking hell by what twisted logic do the Jews come remotely near that level of historical success? Their entire history is one of persecutions and enslavement (if we're to believe the bible). They are damn lucky to even have had the few small breaks that they had. Anyway, even if they had been as "successful" as you say, it was THEY who did it, not God! This is one of the lines of reasoning I truly detest. If things go bad, you're to blame. If things go well, God gets the credit. If the Jews were/are successful because of God, then is there ANYWHERE you can draw the line between HUMANS being responsible for the results they create/their circumstances and GOD being responsible? To remain consistent you would have to say God has his hand in EVERYTHING we do. In other words, we're just pawns in his cosmic game of chess, pets for his divine amusement. Yuck!
I'll admit that. The laws in the old testament were patently immoral. I don't know of one society today that would support such grossly unjust, immoral, excessive laws. If the old testament laws come from god it is A-grade evidence that God is an immoral tyrant. If God is supposed to be omnibenevolent the old testament laws conclusively rule against his existance. Hell is another example. An even worse one. This God is as cruel a monster as anything I've ever heard of. Well, he would be, that is, if he was actually true. Luckily for us he's not.
I'm not going to argue with you over this. I believe that most people that read this thread realize how incredible the Jewish people really are over the centuries.
Look - you hate God and everything about Him. What is immoral about God giving you your wish to be apart from Him? You are criticizing Him for giving you the very thing you desire most...
I believe that anyone who believes is amazingly ignorant of history. The Jews survived by the skin of their teeth. "One of the most successful nationalities" that does not make. How about responding to the rest of the argument regarding your intervenionist-God logic?
And round and round we go. Again, it's not that I "hate" God, it's that I don't BELIEVE HE EXISTS. If hating a character in a fiction novel counts, then yeah, I hate him. He truly sucks. If I was God I would be WAY fairer. Man, I could list a THOUSAND things I would do better then the Bible god did. EASY! And being "apart from" God is not the thing I desire MOST! There are things I desire FAR, FAR more than this. In fact, I would not even think to mention this in a list of my top 1000 desires! Where are you getting these moronic ideas from? I'm not going to confuse you for Einstein any time soon, but even for you this is just plain nuts.
