I don't think that "they" (be it liberals and/or atheists) believe Jesus is the root of all evil. By all accounts, if such a person did, in fact, exist, then he was the very model of decency. The problem arises when, many years after his death, revisionsts sought to deify him, upon which any number of unscrupulous thugs sought to personally capitalize in his name. Suddenly, what they want is what "He" would have wanted. But where Jesus shared (as the story goes), they just took. Where Jesus healed (as the story goes), they said "You're on your own, that's the American way." And so on. And why does the "flock" eat up whatever is placed before them? Because religion appeals to those who need to be told what to <s>think</s> believe, and the people who capitalize on those who willingly suspend their critical thinking. And so, Jesus, himself, is innocent of all the crimes and misdemeanors that followed in his name. As 377OHMS so aptly put it:
