Sometimes just learning about anything else gives us more opportunities to view other symbols and then see if our normal systems work on them while still viewing something new.

  2. Interesting notion. I currently include ETFs in my efforts.... and I don't see the need for trading commodities with their limitations (could trade a few big things like oil, I guess)... and as for the "longer time frames"... I don't believe in trading for that either. The "long term" is a series of "smaller terms". Can't trade many "long term notions" with tight stops.

If someone were to ask me, "what's the best time-frame to play"? I'd say, "play for the swing move" most of the time. (The long term is mostly a succession of swing moves, and I can't see trying to scalp... too manic for small money.)

First off I don't do resolutions, if it takes a new year for someone to start, you already lost. This should be ongoing in one's life of adapting or making changes.

Scataphagos: I think we both would agree to even get into a long term trade is pure luck, whereas swing trades you profit and I breakeven or small profits. Your equity curve is much more smooth as regular profits come your way whereas mine is much more ragged when profits come, once I determine a large trend has started, I will stay the course for years in commodities. My risk is same in swing trading, so rather just do long term. I suspect you have more drawdowns than me as I use options or futures for hedges of entry's but also hedging open profits. Open profit hedges can be considered to be a swing trade which often times reverses into adding on to existing trend. I have always taken part off at money value to pay for losses of having hedges, but have changed to only 5% from 50% years ago when I didn't hedge well enough. My drawdowns of open profits can be staggering in the underlying all the way back to breakeven especially when no signal to put on hedges, LOL.

There is no right way to any part of trading cause having exact patterns in another setup might not act the same.

    Have an incredible 2019 all.
