Why is it "moral" to impose taxes only on "excess" income? I love how people say they don't want to "legislate morality" until it comes to their pet issues and preferences!

  3. Great idea. Lets tax excess weight, excess stupidity, excess height, excess "you know" length etc. Let's all be completely equal - the socialism dream.

i have that guy on ignore but since you quoted him i will answer the question.

everyone should be allowed a certain level of subsistance income before the government takes any away. it is immoral to take from people who cant feed their family.

Ah, ignore those who expose your ignorance. What a concept!

So, the question again -- what morality are you basing this on? And how do you determine "excess"? You've attempted to turn this into a philosophical/ethical discussion. The burden of proof is on you to describe and defend your system of ethics.

Don't worry, I'm not expecting Immanuel Kant-like response. I'm not even expecting an Emmanuel Lewis-like response!

don't really like being too pedantic on them things but I think maybe the use of "moral" "ammoral" "Immoral" kinda convolutes the issue.
I'm not sure I can say is it more moral to have butt secs or more moral to have a blow jobs if i believe premarital sex is wrong. Kinda weird.

They seem to be two different questions being asked. Headache.

    Interesting thread

  8. Nice thread 20% or less and a return to feudalism sounds pretty good to most posters.

No, the scary thing is the number of non-thinkers who confuse "feudalism" with the pre-income tax, pre-Fed U.S.

Oh, and those who think we can impose 70% tax on the "wealthy" under today's tax system without disastrous consequences.

  10. An ape would have enough deduction skills to see what the system you suggest would lead to, but apparently you do not. You confuse "non-thinking" with not brainwashed into believing propaganda. Simple minded people can be lead to believe whatever the wealthy suggest. These people are failures.
