Hmmm.... me thinks a few of these responses have nothing to do with Econ.

Lol, perhaps grasshopper, but that's a political viewpoint and implicitly biased.

In order to answer OP w.r.t economics... a judgement regarding autarky needs to be established first. Is a nation's self-sufficiency a worthwhile goal?

Only then can a number cruncher come in and use a dismal science to take a less wild guess.

IIRC the greatest increase in the National Debt was under Trump. He was responsible for adding over NINE TRILLION FUCKING DOLLARS to the Debt.

my Republican friends never mentioned that. They were quick to say that Obama added a ton of debt.

I’ve been told this since 2016. Maybe it is biased. It’s definitely an outsiders view so that makes it good.

Just pointing out that the political economy is not black and white but highly nuanced. That said, if you want to stay in the remedial class w/ @poopy that's up to you ;)

I’ve been told it’s pretty black and white. The stock market is the primary quantitative measure. Unemployment is a qualitative measure: if it’s good under your term it’s real. If it’s good under the other guys term it’s fake.

    This is outsider political thinking.

so to make it related to the OP. The economic benefit of tariffs is if it caters to underlying racism within an economically illiterate low information group.
