What is the difference between a junior trader and a assistant trader?

  1. After researching the web for information, I still can't tell the difference between a junior trader and a assistant trader? Are they the same job?

Also, is it possible for someone who just got their BA to become either a junior trader or assistant trader? Is this an entry-level job or must the candidate require some experience?

  2. I believe trader in business is people who execute trades. Not someone who trade the account. For example, a fund manager want 500k shares of MSFT, and the trader call up brokers to acquire the shares.

Junior Traders actually trade and Assistant Traders only assist traders (checking numbers, reconciling trades), kind of like an apprentice to the traders. Although you can be hired as a Junior with no experience, the career progression would most likely be Assistant Trader -> Junior Trader -> Trader.

  4. Assistant trader does things like get the trader a soft drink, maybe coffee, turns on the computer in the morning and makes sure there is no porn on top.

Junior trader is generally the trader's son.
