    Basically, you want a long leg with MORE time to expiry, ITM, and lower IV than your short leg (sooner to expiry, OTM and higher IV/greater time value).

    My basic equation - R/R = breakeven point MUST be below the current underlying price. This is >50% chance of profit.
    AND total Profit potential must be at least 1:1 against total loss potential. This gives >50% Profit / Loss ratio.
    When you satisfy these two rules and maximize their intersection, you have set the odds in your favor and can recur the trade for long-term steady profit.
    Obviously, some fundamentals must be looked at as well as market trends as support to pull the trigger. I was doing very well until the down market of 2022 caused significant pain. This trades works pretty well in sideways markets and extremely well in up markets. It fails in bear markets.
