From your previous commentary I expect you to stay short the dollar until my children are burned. Otherwise, I'll be very offended and disappointed in your vision and ability to predict the future. Have some BALLS stay short until the dollar goes to zero. If that wasn't a serious point of view, your one sick puppy getting so excited about the nation being marched into the ovens. I'm with the guy who believes there are more benefits to being in this country than getting out of some taxes and away from annoying politics. If you don't like the tax system now how were you able to make it this long in the US? We are pretty low on the scale of how we have been taxed. Ask your Poppa about the late 70's. I don't know what your parents outlook is on this, but if it's anything like yours you would have been born elsewhere, and probably been wondering how to get into the United States.
I think what may help is keeping in mind that the dollar and treasury bonds are nothing more than notes that represent the full faith and credit of the U.S. government. And the bottom line is that credit spreads in secondary markets for sovereign bonds around the world demonstrate that the majority opinion on who's full faith and credit is most reliable is the United States, and has been since organized bond markets have existed. I admit my point about pointing guns at someone was cavalier, but i was trying to drive home the point that part of the reason for this elevated faith that the U.S. will be the most creditworthy of all countries has to do with our ability to defend the assets of the country against all foes, foreign or domestic. Sure kuwait seemed like a good credit risk...high per capita wealth, rich in natural resources, generally a bunch of nice guys, waterfront property, plenty of shipping. But the fact that Saddam's thugs rolled in...took what they wanted...torched the oil fields...did some raping and then rolled home with a few mercedes's reminded the world that credit risk isn't just about if you think the dude intends to pay you back.
The problem here is not that you have spotted something about the US that nobody else knows. The problem is that the criteria for choosing an alternative home that you outlined at the start of this thread are wildly unrealistic, which suggests that your expectations are unrealistic. This in turn implies you have very little experience in the real world outside the US and perhaps - given that you're still in college - precious little in the US either. You don't seem to realise that you pretty much described a utopia in the original post, but there is no Shangri La out there. Wherever you go from the US you're going to have to compromise on many things. At best you will find a country that offers a set of compromises that you find slightly more acceptable. However, I have never met an ex-pat who didn't get pissed off about multiple aspects of their adopted country after a couple of years: too hot, too cold, too humid, too dry, too much crime, too conservative and boring (you mentioned Swizterland), inadequate health care, overt racism, corruption, insularity and so on. Many people on this board (myself included) have lived outside their native countries for years and have learned this lesson the hard way. Travel a bit and get some real learning under your belt, but don't expect to find paradise out there. Suss

Interesting. Your willing to throw away the US for destinations unknown, revoking citizenship, on the currently held belief the US is in dire straights. All Rats jump ship. From where I sit the danger in US is to many people want no one to get hurt. You may find in trading countries it's not as easy or inexpensive to flip from short to long as in the currencies. Your trying to short the US in a major way with no real knowledge of how to counter that if things go bad in Fatrat land. I love all of the patriotism on this forum. Going away from America, that's a new one. Don't you remember: "Give me all your poor, Give me all of your sick." But when the nation is sick (NOT THAT IT IS YET), everyone wants to leave. Well, good riddance. Its one thing to Stand up for America when were trying to get through hard times. BUT! it is a whole diffrent story when the political structure is carelessly flushing its country's values, money, Constitutional rights down the hole.
