Don't want to offend but if you have the money to start 10 times over, why not once double your trading account and keeping it in there?
Because I don't need that to have a comfortable life. If you have a good income you have to choose between living for work or work for aliving. I worked very hard for decades, now I want to enjoy life. Making money is not on my priority list anymore. I still trade because I like it. If I would double it, I would get the question: why not double it again? It will never stop. I don't need to be the richest man on the graveyard. People have three choices in life: Never work and prefer to be poor. Always work and have no life. Work till you reach a comfortable level, then limit the work and maximize enjoying life. Besides that I have children. I prefer to help them with growing their account if they wish to trade. Entertainment then? You trade to keep busy and for the challenge. Not unlike going to the casino. If you enjoy trading and you can afford the loss, then it isn't work. If you can increase your net worth by doing something you enjoy that seems to be a win/win situation. Why wouldn't you let your account grow?
great points re rules, ddog, since following your posts here I'm much better at it ... thx! game-changer for me is lots of small trades, re-entries, super-tight stops, eg .1 on 300 shares that, and manually tightening up trailing stops as a daytrade moves in my favor, < .1
I like to beat the market. Each time when I win it gives a good feeling. But trading should not feel like an obligation anymore. I had to do it under a lot of pressure during many years, so I don't have the drive anymore nor the energy. And I discovered a lot of pleasant things in life that I had no time for during many years. My trading adventure costed me my first marriage as I was married with my computer and the futures market. Found a new wife and don't want to make the same mistake again. I never wanted to be poor, and I never wanted to work my whole life. So I chose the only option that was left, choice 3. Why do people start to work part time if they can work full time? Because they make a choice. Did you read the story of the Mexican fisherman? I see you make great returns. Why not take a few millions credit and make more money?
With your returns there is room for decent risk management and capital preservation. You decided not to do that, while others would probably do it. So each person has his own reasons to do what he does. That's always the answer if people ask: "why don't you do this or that?"
I think we are on the same page. I took early retirement and manage to live comfortably. If I want to go somewhere I fly first class but don't have my own private jet. I enjoy the challenge of trading and have been fortunate enough to do well at it. The kids will have a nice start when I drop dead and I get to see some pretty big smiles at Christmas when they look at their cheques. Being happy is a choice!! Yes
That explains a lot. https://nypost.com/2017/09/07/man-loves-his-macbook-so-much-he-decided-to-marry-it/
The game changer for me was the trading strategy I created and the ability to control risks and my emotions when trading.
