This thread is a challenge to the anti-TA crowd that for some strange reason(s) loves to hang out in the TA forum. Frankly I have a hard time believing you really know what TA is. Maybe I'm wrong. So I have a challenge for you: give us your definition of technical analysis. To avoid rambling dissertations and to prove that you really know what you're talking about, please restrict your definition to a single sentence and 25 words or less. In fact, I'll even spot you the first three words. Starting with "Technical analysis is", you now have up to 25 more words to finish that sentence. Good luck, and thanks for your participation.
TA - Analysis of price and/or volume (only) to determine optimal securities entries and exits. Oops, sorry, I'm not anti-TA, but the def still holds.
I always hear T.A. used to describe discretionary quantitative analysis of price action and sometimes volume, typically by day traders.
Sorry, that definition is incorrect. I will post a correct definition later after we get some more input from other members.
What is TA? Either: 1. TA is the relationship of current price to a previous price and/or indicator. Or... 2. Something to argue about on elitetrader.com.
How can you say that definition is incorrect??? You asked for our definition, right? Let's hear your definition.
The anti-TA crowd will not show up...at least not the ones that have a habit of debating the merits of TA. Analysis of past price action in an effort to forecast future changes in price action. http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php?id=chart_school:overview:technical_analysis http://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/technicalanalysis.asp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_analysis http://www.hedgefund-index.com/d_technicals.asp http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Technical+Analysis My point, lots of TA definitions out there which is one of the reasons why there's so much debate because many aren't on the same page about the definition itself.
Sorry brother Faire and brother Wr... We all three are saying about the same thing and so we are obviously all wrong. I'm sure brother Kut will soon show us the correct path.
