What is Quant Trading?

Wall Street loves to come up with exotic names for everything to so-call spice up the already useless worn out ideas and products. Why the hell would they name money printing as "quantitative easing"? What is so quantitative about that? In the same vein, quant (or quantitative) trading was created not because it's any more objectively quantifiable than the old school TA but out of need to sell to the gullible establishment.

I have seen the impressive results of the advanced work done by P.H.D's in mathematics and physics with expertise in the fields of x-rays, image processing and astrodynamics within profitable oraganizations. Granted the accumulated body of work over time of the organization exceeds that of any brilliant individual but is amazing to me that some individuals , going it alone , choose to compete squarely against "it" in the area of financial engineering.
Wish i knew what "it" was so i could stay clear of it.

  3. Ouch that hurts. Perfectly and positively incorrect information and assumptions.

Not a single quant developed or came up with technical analysis nor technical analysis indicators. If you know even one you would realize that those indicator authors are most all laymen who have no quantitative financial background at all.

Stop hating others merely on the basis that they are above you in he food chain. Geez

  4. You TA people are hilarious. You walk around all day long praising TA and your voodoo hocus-pocus and then trash a scientific and highly mathematical discipline applied to finance. Basically, losers who indebted themselves or their families hating those who studied hard and competed with the top for highly coveted jobs and top salaries.

    depends how you define "was".

If you define was as "has been" then it is a person engaged in covert advertising that spreads buzz by endorsing products with the pretense of sincerity when in fact he is being paid for his services.

  7. Haters over haters....if it were for good reason at least. But you do not even seem to understand what quants do.

I have no intention of getting into a spit fest, but does this "volpunter" ever NOT have an opinion? I see that he's all over ET, on each and every thread, handing out his unwelcomed condescending remarks. Should anyone disagree with his pompous remarks, he pisses everyone off with his half-ass invectives.

He speaks down on TA with authority like as if he ever used it but just when does he ever trade when he's spending all his waking hours posting here on ET? I can't believe this crap is being tolerated. Seriously!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

It seems he "studied hard and competed with the top" so he can spend most or all of his free-time insulting people in ET. Go figure, Quants! LOL
