What is my Cost Basis for shares of KFT that were paid as a dividend of MO?

  1. I sold them last year and I need this info for my taxes. My Scottrade account has no history on buying any shares of KFT because I never bought them, but I have a "Net Proceeds" value from them.

is the Cost Basis $0 because I never paid for them? Or is it their share price on the day I received them?

  3. You know I never got a check from Scottrade for the fractional shares. I have .1529 shares of KFT sitting in my Scottrade account right now that I can't do anything with.

It sounds to me from that article and the .pdf on Altria's website that I'm supposed to take 23.84% of my original cash basis for my shares of MO. So then am I supposed to multiply my MO cash basis by 76.16% then, too?

I sold KFT and MO in 2008, but I bought MO in 2005.
