What in trading is patentable?

Discussion in 'Trading' started by ChaosNSX, May 24, 2005.

  1. When I was at ETG, Bob Kanter got a patent for some of his rules of trading. Some were rejected because they were already in the public domain. I never saw the actual patent, but I was told he tried to get one on all his rules but was only successful on about 2/3rds. Since he taught me to trade, does that make me in violation if I use the rules?

  2. Bob Kanter? A Patent? Maybe a copyright for his trader education videotapes, or a trademark for his "Kanter's Top Ten Trading Rules", but I don't see how he would patent a set of general rules. They don't serve any of the purposes outlined by the patent office. Seems this discussion is becoming more and more abstract.

I wonder who owns.. "Cut your losers and let your winners run"

I still am going to have to agree with the keep it to yourself mantra.

  5. Sounds like someone does not know how to negotiate legal fees and was "bullied" by lawyers. What an idiotic statement, some folks will stop at nothing in the name of "marketing" ridiculous!
