Henry Ford senior broke the back of Unionism in the USA by employing thugs like his no.2 Bennett in the 1930s. There is a lot wrong with Unions but a lot right as well.
I have a few friends from that region and this lines up with their stories. The way they explained it to me was hiring one person to dig holes and another to fill them up, so two jobs were created.
