  1. If you guys think it's such a great gig, you should have pursued it.

All I'm hearing is sour grapes and envy.

  2. My wife is one. And my sister-inlaw. They LOVE it. They agree that the compensation is grand.

  3. They still only work 9 months though. Not bad.

Maybe my numbers are off for FL. I`m ignorant to ins costs in FL. But in NY a family of 3 is paying at least 1500.00 monthly for a GOOD package.

  5. The average teaching salary in Dade County is 42k a year. Plus bennies. Plus a VERY seductive retirement package. A fortune? Hardly. A slap in the face? No way. Not when the average household in Dade is only earning $37,000. How many women who are working the sales counter at Dillards, or waiting tables, or toiling 40 hours a week as secretaries are going to retire on 75% of their last pay check? I'd say somewhere around zip.

  9. Roughly:

$10,000 spent on each child: local, state, fed money.

    30 students per classroom

    $10k X 30= $300,000 spent per classroom.

    $50,000 for a teacher's salary and benefits.

    $300,000 - $50,000= $250,000.

Where does the rest of that $250,000 per classroom go? Administration?
