Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable. Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban. While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous. Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Spokane, Wash., also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, S.C., school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports. "I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," said Debbie Laferriere, who has two children at Willett, about 40 miles south of Boston. "Playing tag is just part of being a kid." Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said. :eek: :eek:
this is more likely about the liberal dopes who run our schools, not just lawyers. You see tag and flag football can make some children feel bad (because they don't win.) Our schools are trying to modulate everyone into a middle.
I would blame the feminization of america - but I dont wish to unfairly disparage women. My six year plays baseball. the other day one of the coaches said I want all you kids o practice at home and have this drill mastered by next week. He said there would be some sort of reward for the kids who did it best. (this coach is a retired fireman) I heard a guy behind me say - he should not do that -- that is wrong. I saw him walk up the coach and say it was wrong. The coach asked why. He said well I am a pilot and I am away lot so I cant practice with my son. it is not right to make his son feel bad about not practicing. The retired fireman said "I just thought it was a good idea, sorry." I could not believe the fireman (a friend of mine now) was so nice. I would have said - did you get to be a pilot not practicing? Do you want your kid to feel good without mastering a skill? The guts are being squeezed out of this country by a bunch of losers making rules particularly the teachers unions.
Maybe more like the France-ification of America??? And don't keep score during a game. What about the losing team's feelings? What's happening in the schools is so unreal. They are making schools like a fairy tale land. Kids are being so unprepared for real life.

Hey dad, take your boy grouse hunting spend some time teaching him the woods. Teach him how to swoon the ladies. Then maybe he wont be such a pussy.... Hey mom, take your daughter to Kung Fu classes so she wont be a pushover and will kick the potential date rapers ass... Relying on public schools for anything is just lazy. All those teachers care about is getting seniority so they have free medical and a retirement package for the rest of their lives.
In suffolk county on LI they start at 45k and are well into the 70`s by 5th-10th year. And they suck also....so dont give me that. I think its less the pay but more a problem of public servant attitude. It seems once your on the government, state or county teet you become complacent.
I'm with Jem. This is just another example of the secular-progressive liberal mentality of "every child should be equal and have equal opportunities no matter what". And while this sounds all nice and good for education and learning opportunities, removing flag football because some kids don't "win"... I weep for the future.
