it has to be a balanced approach just as obama has said and offered all along. maybe if the republicans are embarrased enough in the next election they may start acting like adults and make the compromises that have to be made.
The oddity of this is that the libertarians are considered a wing of the GOP, you guys got NO LOVE from your party. You should rethink who you are aligned with.
Because we both cherish fiscal conservative behavior - thought as of recent times, the republicans weren't very good stewards of wise fiscal policy either. That is why we're aligned. The importance of fiscal issues outweighs our disagreement on social policy. So for now, we'll remain aligned if we both say we want the same thing fiscally. Democrats openly talk about more spending, that scares us away. But we are aligned on social policy a hell of a lot more. But as I say, right now fiscal trumps social, so you find us aligned with the right.
Reagan's GOP, whom I would say was much more respected than this GOP, would have. Hence, Christie's speech. Then Clinton, the most popular living President EVER, essentially backed this up. Compromise. This Tea Party, Lucrum, CoolTraderDude, Phoenix, pspr, version of the GOP has no national viability. The sane GOP knows this. Hence, Romney vs Santorum or Newt. The GOP will be back in 2016, and America will have a legitimate two party system again.
Fair enuf, but you guys must understand that this GOP gives a rats ass about spending. Please review Ryan's record. They are using the spending thing as a trojan horse, to push a social agenda. Worse, they are not even trying to hide it that hard. Most of us are fiscal hawks, Tsing. You libertarians are with folk who just want to use you. Come on over. The GOP rejected the libertarians not for their fiscal views, but for their social views. This GOP wants a Theocracy. Refute this, I am all ears.
I agree with Tsing, we need a kamikaze Pres. The way I understand it, the executive branch controls all agencies, they are funded by Congress but under control of the Pres. He could begin consolidating or simply wipe out certain agencies. I'm not sure how much that would save a year, because every pie chart of fed spending is different, but it has to help.. i'm sure it is a significant % of the budget. just think of how much shit there is. I'm also ok with a decrease in military spending but nothing major. Entitlements are the major problem but I don't have the effort atm to get into detail about fixing them, i've done so before. Term limits on Congress would be a game changer as well, I think it would bring in a whole new class of people who ONLY want to help the country, not just themselves because they know it isn't a permanent gig. Of course some would still help those who got them elected but not in perpetuity. Anyway like you I don't think anything will happen until it is forced upon us as a whole. thing is, obama has not only proven himself useless in solving the real fiscal issues, he is part of the problem. If you understand this then why you want the guy is hard for me to fathom.
You make this sound like a huge accomplishment. So he's the most popular EVER out of 5 Presidents? Two of which have been hugely unpopular?
you need to go back to school and this time stay awake in government class. a president does not have that kind of power.
Dodge. Tsing, the libertarians want fiscal responsibility and a free social society. The GOP wants a Theocracy. They do. Look at the GOP primaries. Tell me you were not disgusted at some point. They do not care about spending. They don't. Come on over, and tell your friends.
Im going Obama because I am sick of America looking like a backwater. We are the ONLY first world nation without a national healthcare net. There you go. FOUR MORE YEARS!!!
