This is how a licensed gun owner deals with criminal thugs in a dangerous city. It has already been proven that more licensed gun owners legally owning firearms is an immediate deterrent to violent crime.

Tony, do you agree with this statement? Because you just got done telling me how increasing the penalties and sentences would deter gun violence.

For the shooter no,penalties and sentences would not deter gun violence. For the dealers selling guns yes penalties and sentences would deter gun violence because most people who sell guns aren't going to risk 10 years in prison selling a fully automatic weapon, that makes fully automatic weapons unavailable to most shooters who would want them. Most felons stay out of the gun selling business as well because of the federal penalties and sentences if they are caught. For a non felon selling a gun they bought or got from a car break in to somebody they sell drugs to it is no big risk as its a misdemeanor in many places.

If there are less middlemen selling guns that would reduce gun violence.Thats who needs to be targeted with big penalties and sentences which is just a misdemeanor in many places. That would make it harder for the person who has made their mind up to shoot someone to get a gun.We also need universal background checks to stop people from getting guns at gun shows and parking lot transactions but republicans wont even allow that.

Hunters laptop and work requirements for food stamps(which mostly goes to children, the elderly, and disabled) are more important to republicans than gun violence in America.

So you do, or do not, agree with the "Extreme penalties for criminal behavior rarely reduce the behavior." statement? You think intensifying the penalties would impact those selling guns?

For the shooter no,penalties and sentences would not deter gun violence. For the dealers selling guns yes penalties and sentences would deter gun violence(by limiting the ability of shooters to get guns)

Yes they would.Less than 10% of people arrested for illegal possession of a gun are felons, reason being the 5 years federal sentence.Even fewer than that are arrested for having an illegal full auto, because of an even longer prison sentence.Because illegal dealers don't deal in full auto weapons only 2 people have been murdered by a fully automatic weapon since 1986.

Illegal possession of a fully automatic machine gun=federal crime.Felon or non felon,10 year prison sentence.

Likely less than 1 % of illegal weapon possession arrest are for illegal possession of a fully automatic machine gun.2 people have been killed in homicides by a fully automatic machine guns in America since 1986.

Felon in possession of a firearm=federal crime.5 year prison sentence.

Less than 10% of illegal weapon possession arrest are for felon in possession of a firearm.

Non felon illegal possession of a firearm=state crime.Misdemeanor with no jail time in most cases.Even in states where its a felony unless the suspects rap sheet is a mile long they are not likely to get much jail time if any at all.

The correlation between the 2 illegal weapon possession crimes with 5 and 10 year federal prison sentences being less than 10% of illegal weapon possession arrest and 90%+ of illegal weapon possession arrest are the state crime with no jail time is clear.

Do long jail sentences deter crime? Depends on the crime imo.Emotional based crimes like murder or impulse base crimes like rape is less likely to be deterred by a long prison sentence.Profit based crimes like selling guns as a side hustle is more likely to be affected by a long prison sentence.Americas previous largest criminal organization, The Mafia, despite their huge profit potential bosses had rules against members selling drugs because of the huge prison sentences they could get.
