What happened when the Euro was adopted?

  1. I'm curious, if you were long or short a currency of any of the countries that adopted the Euro, whether it be Germany, France, Spain etc, what exactly happened to your long position for instance when the adoption took place? I'm very curious because if one is short/long the dollar and some sort of North American dollar comes into effect, what happens?
  2. There would be ample notice. On a somewhat related note Slovakia recently became Euro and their SK korunas became souvenirs. There was plenty of notice many months.
  3. Yes but let's say you own UUP (the US dollar ETF) and then a NA currency is adopted, sure there will be ample notice but will the ETF just wind down like any other ETF that no longer trades?
