What happened to the old traders

  1. You're trying to sell a foregone conclusion based on selective evidence.

I'm skeptical about this evidence. What is the evidence? What is it based on?

Too complicated for me to comprehend. Care to explain in simpler language?

He has no "evidence", what he has is he-said-she-said and that traders have the prudence to not show their P&L to dopes on the net.

Re TA/charting, search the archives. There are many threads discussing whether any well known fund managers base their trading on TA/charting. The only names TA defenders come up with are the likes of Peter Brandt who quit managing money 20- 30 years ago. Pretty much says it all.

    That's partially true.

There were "other" names of fund managers that were mentioned that either used charts or they hire those in their offices that used charts.

They were easily dismissed because their funds were too small or not famous.

Also, there was "research" posted or an article by a research firm that analyzed the performance of funds that used charting versus those that did not use charting. Guess what, that too was dismissed because the research only involved 5 years. I can't remember what started the discussion but it involved someone first saying that "no funds use charting".

Then the person that posted the research...he was a little sneaky in his reply. Thus, he wasn't trying to show results of the funds in comparison. Instead he was trying to show that there are funds that actually used charting or hired chartist. The fact that the debate changed to the funds were too small actually proved his point...some do use charting and he really didn't care about some yearly result of a particular year.

After that was proven...the debate change to that the funds mentioned were only using TA/charting for marketing/illustration purposes only to lure in new clients.

Simply, you too can search the archives. :sneaky:

My point, its an old debate...both sides claiming victory. What's new ???

If you're curious, I don't believe someone can use TA/charting all by itself for success. surf himself stated there are some that use charting successfully but with "something else". He used T. Sykes as an example along with posting proof via a sample of the guys performance record. Thus, he believes the same thing as I do.

Yet, I have met people including fund managers that use TA/charting for illustration purposes to their clients and I have met some that use TA/charting via those employed in their offices to support some research (e.g. fundamentals, seasonal tendency and so on).

Old debate but new folks involved.

Can we knock off the TA debate and instead dig up the dead? It is way more interesting...

  8. I quite agree. We might just find more than a few left because they were sick to death of this endless TA debate.

You prefer talking about the Walking Dead or dead people that just don't move ??? :)

Out of curiosity...who are the ET members that disappeared for many years (some thought they were dead) and then suddenly they reappeared out of nowhere soon after their names are mentioned ???

    Lescor, Dustin and who else.

Yep this thread has turned to custard when Surf turned up.
Ironic that he blames FX discussion on ET as being disruptive.
I've put surf and all his followers on ignore because their technical contibution on ET in total adds up to zero.
Its like, as an example, you have a computer club of people discussing computers in a clubroom, but sitting at another table is a bunch of old women talking gossip and shit and continually interjecting and telling the men discussing computers that they are the ones talking shit.
You need to kick the fat bitches drinking tea and talking shit out of the clubroom.
Thats what I've done with Surf and his minions, am sick and tired of their noise.
