What happen to TLT in April 2009?

Discussion in 'ETFs' started by BrooksRimes, May 3, 2009.

  1. Does anyone have insight on why TLT dropped about 7 points during the month of April? And, is the carnage over?

  2. TLT is tracked as a proxy for bonds in the same manner ASA is for gold.

I don't believe the carnage is over.

  3. Thanks for the post. Can you elaborate more on what happened with bonds in April?

what carnage are u referring to?

  5. It had a significant ~8 point drop in April. It's now under its' 200 day MA. Maybe "carnage" was a little harsh. :)

  6. A run back up from 97 to 105 is not inconceivable. The selling has taken it to some decent support levels. But don't expect it to fly higher. That would be a great entry to the short side.

  7. Secular top in long bonds. Inverse to 1981. B4 your time.

However, US was not nearly as dependent on foreign capital in 1981.

That aside, what's a 30 year face value really worth 30 years from now irrespective of price fluctuation?

    Carnage? sssssss. It's just beginning.

Wow (or is it whoa), my 500th post. Guess that puts me in some kind of an "elite" circle.

  8. B4 who's time? I'm over 50.

Aren't treasuries supposed to be a place of safety during uncertainty?

I guess the "full faith of the U.S. government" isn't what it used to be.

  9. time to look into longing US Treasuries through cash outright, futures or TLT. But I would keep a tight stop at 90 (on TLT) and slowly leg into the trade with a target of 100 over the next 2 months.
