Obama meets Bloomberg as he prepares order on guns

"Washington (CNN)As his administration prepares an executive order tightening access to guns, President Barack Obama met Wednesday with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a proponent of new gun laws who has become the chief enemy of the National Rifle Association.

Obama has met with a series of gun control advocates in recent weeks as his aides complete work on a potential order expected to expand background checks on gun sales by closing the so-called "gun show loophole."

A timeline on the order -- which has been tangled in legal and administrative questions -- is still unknown. The President met with former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was gravely wounded during a 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona, on December 4 to discuss gun control.

But even as he works to tighten access to firearms, a new survey shows dwindling support for an outright ban on assault weapons, which both Obama and Bloomberg have advocated as a means to prevent gun deaths..."

He can try an executive order if he wishes. Lots of law enforcement has already been on record saying they will not enforce such an executive order if they believe it is against the constitution. All he's doing is driving up the price of weapons.

Why is that a bad thing? If it costs a million dollars to get an AR-15, the better.

Besides, I doubt what you are saying is true. All free markets are supply/demand and guns are in ample supply.

It's not a bad thing. If I can sell one of my AR's for $1mm, I'll gladly do it.

This is because, as usual, you speak from the standpoint of someone with no knowledge of firearms. As an example, the local "Shoot Straight" vendor here in Tampa that is usually stocked up with all sorts of weapons has the shelves bare as people have cleaned them out. When you ask about a weapon, they reply that it's back ordered. Saw this when Obama was elected - supply can't keep up with demand.

Even if you were absolutely sure the person you were selling it to was going to commit mass murder with the weapon?

Gee, what do you think? In your hypothetical land of make believe, I'd sell the gun for $1mm to that individual and then have him arrested 3 minutes later. I mean, since we're playing pretend and all.

I don't even follow that asinine chart. What is the X axis supposed to represent?

  10. Just a little poll I'll take. Try to guess what's going on here. I will let you know tomorrow evening what was actually happening. Don't be shy.
