It's nothing more than redistribution of wealth. I would expect nothing more from Bernie Sanders. I hope they understand how dangerous this proposition is. There are a ton people in our country that are dependent on the steady growth of the stock market for their retirement. It doesn't just benefit the wealthy. It could really hurt a lot of people if money starts to flow out of the stock market. Not to mention the fact that liquidity would drop, and increase the chances of a significant crash.
Wall Street is more powerful than the small minority of voters who follow Bernie who have no power to either get him nominated for the position or to even win. So this is a big fat campaign promise nothing burger...
I don't like subsidies in any form. Our agriculture industry is probably the closest thing we have to socialism in this country. But on the other hand, our food supply is a matter of national security. So to some extent, the subsidies are a necessary evil. I'm still hopeful that we'll end up seeing meaningful change from China whenever the dust settles. If that happens, the ends will justify the means.
Subsidies are temporary to help our farmers stay solvent until the trade wars end one way or the other. If the Chinese were to win out, they will offer lesser prices for soybeans produced in the US. Time to see if there is demand from other countries. If not, I do not see why our farmers cannot plant other crops like fruits and vegetables and sell it in the US? The US produces most of our food and since, we provide welfare to our US citizens, why not buy our own farm goods? It helps the farmers have a market for their products, food provided to needy Americans would be more nutritious as well!
