Faster internet or channel bond multiple connections. Go with the oldest operating system that will run your software. Your hardware is way overpowered and does not need upgraded.

  2. Interesting perspective and one that is at least worth looking into..

How does one go about "channel bonding multiple connections"?

  3. For a visual reference point of where I'm at right now, I just performed a speed test and I'm currently getting 46mbps for download and a 4mbps for upload with a 32ms ping, should that be sufficient or would that potentially be what is causing the lag?

Funny note. I had ping times over 100ms and found out it was because several insubordinate law enforcement organizations were spying on me because I was in the military.

32 ms is ok for streaming data. Your mbps is also good unless you are doing something special like trying to download the whole book on hundreds of securities or get live data on the whole market in 1m intervals. I have to say actual bandwidth use for that stuff is a gray area for me.

Does your lag increase if you stream a youtube video? If so, you might need more net.

Channel bonding is most easily done with a router that supports it or you can add an extra network card to your desktop. Try googling it.

...unless you installed a weather app and an antivirus app at the same time, a mistake which can max out all the resources of IBM, Amazon, and Microsoft at the same time.

No hardware can substitute for a clean well maintained system.

    Ping 18, download 210, upload 11,
thinking of going upgrade on the download to a gig will cost $45 a month more.

  7. That's way faster than mine.

Do you think my lag problem is mostly hardware related or internet related?

    NEW LAPTOP for me!

I am upgrading my MSI GT 75 (circa 2017) 7th gen Intel i7.

New machine is an MSI GE 76 raider with a an i9 HK, 32 gb DDR5, 4Tb Samsung 980 Pro SSD (PCI4x). (all the extra SSD space is for non trading stuff).

It is a fast machine for doing development-back testing. I'll keep the old machine as the trading rig before moving to a co locate solution.

  9. Think its internet related, my router is 5 + years old, its ASUS RT-AC88U when we got it Cnet called it " The Lexus of wireless routers " cost us $225.00 that being said we got it cause it had 8 Gigabit LAN ports, I wired my house with CAT 6 Cable, my trading office has 6 CAT Jacks So I can rearrange my room as I see fit, rest of house has four CAT 6 jacks around the house, only use the wifi for the cellphone, still running strong and still for sale at amazon for $200 bucks.. We invested in a good Router and its last and well worth is. Also it can handle TWO WAN connections if I have need for a 2nd back up internet connection as well. https://www.cnet.com/reviews/asus-rt-ac88u-router-review/ [IMG]
