Please provide the jitter stats as requested, and also the same results when you plug in via Ethernet. Also, let us know the exact name of your CenturyLink service plan.
I will connect my ethernet cable to do that test later on today. As far as the jitter stats, I thought that the screenshot that I uploaded included that to the right? Is that not what you are looking for, do I need to screenshot something else? My CenturyLink plan is the 40mb Fiber plan, I don't see anywhere on their site where they provide more details than that. Thanks again for your time/expertise.
I hate to break it to you but it looks like you're barking up the wrong tree at this point. Try connecting to your router with the wire but don't get your hopes up that it will fix the problem. So you know, I don't think the lag will affect your P/L. But, if the lag is really bothering you (for whatever reason, which includes basic user experience)... you probably want to start digging more into your system's software configuration. Try the simple and least expensive options first. A few of things off the top of my head... (I'm assuming you're using windows 10): disable fancy gfx disable unnecessary system services contact the software vendor and ask for help bump the software's priority look in task manager to monitor system resource utilization Finally, I want you to know that if you expect to play the stock market like a video game... where the person who can click on a button the fastest wins, you'll have to adjust your expectations a fair bit.
Appreciate all the info and suggestions there! I've been trading for 25 years, but recently made an adjustment to my trading routine because I am no longer doing it full-time (pursuing something else while still trading). I'm simply trying to fix this for basic user experience, nothing related to PnL. I'm just not tech-savvy enough to really understand what might be the issue.
Yeah... I understand completely. For better or worse, computer systems are so complex these days, your chances of "working around" the problem may be better than fixing it "precisely"; at least in the near/medium term. Try to make the best of it!
Your latency is surprisingly high (would seem to imply a wireless/5G ISP connection of some sort but there might be other issues going on too). A separate issue is your home network - i.e. WiFi - get an Ethernet cable, plug directly into the router and run the test again, and provide the results. Also you need to tell us exact name of the plan you are on with your ISP.
Here are a couple direct connect tests I just did + one WiFi one. Oddly enough, the WiFi one is the one with the fasted download time, why would that be?
So you local WiFi isn't an issue. Speeds can certainly vary from test to test (especially if there are other users on the network) but they seem fairly consistent. I've asked this before a couple of times, but you haven't provided it: Also you need to tell us exact name of the plan you are on with your ISP. I can't provide any further guidance until you do.
It only says "40mb," and that is it. I think I am on some kind of grandfathered plan with a locked-in price. I will try to contact them tomorrow to see if they can be more specific, but I will tell you that the times that I have had to call their customer service in the past did not go well.
