What defines an "Edge".

Opening up this thread may not have been the wisest choice. If you are interested primarily -- or only -- in the thoughts of those you listed in your first post, perhaps you should consider sending them a group "private thread". Otherwise, there's no reason why this thread shouldn't go the same route that all the other threads on "edge" have gone.

    Just a thought.

  2. I would have loved to have done that and the ones who allow private threads are being asked if they can contribute, however not all of them allow private threads hence the thread.

The problem with that is that being right is what most traders focus on and not what they should focus on which is risk/trade management. You don't need a high winning percentage to be extremely successful. However, you do need prudent trade/risk management skills. This is the only true edge in trading.

You''ll notice that the trade management forum is one of the least posted to and least viewed here at the ranch. You'll also notice that most traders lose money. There is a distinct correlation between lack of interest in trade management and the majority of traders losing money.

Alpha Trader and Baron like this.
  5. An edge is a repeatable and profitable way to approach the market. It is replicatable and scalable. It can be articulated so that it can be explained. It can be quantified -- it doesn't require savants to execute. At the same time, by definition an edge is short lived as the market will morph or regulations will kill it as a true edge will eventually kill the market. Think mutual fund timing ( the now illegal kind). That was a true edge.

  6. Money management is critical. But it's not an edge. MM is not required with an edge -- think true arbitrage--- you have won before you trade. That's a true edge

It's all anyone without a real edge like information has. Therefore, MM will keep you in the game hopefully long enough for luck to smile upon you---all other "chart based or price based" edges are fantasy or aberrations of misinterpreted good fortune.

True. Conditions practically demand that one limit from whom one accepts PMs. And I'm not surprised that at least some of those on your list abstain.

If the thread doesn't go as you want it to, you might search for "edge" using each of their names. You'd end up with a hell of a lot of hits, but at least it's better than plowing through what is most likely to be posted here.

  8. Already tried that to. The search button is the most used button on elite trader in my opinion.

You might also try searching for "edge" in thread titles, then search each thread for their names. At least some of them also had journals at one time.

Out of suggestions. Best of luck.

  10. Be wary of stealth vendor types suggesting the use of "private" rooms and messages.
