You can trade Weekly timeframes, say pullbacks to obvious levels on Weekly charts, and then use Daily charts for entry timing. That way you get low risk entries with very tight stops, and the R/R is usually very high, plus you don’t have to baby sit trades.
I'm a trader rather than an investor, but if I'm going to be holding longer than a day, I never short the US indices.

Although I have a few favorite setups, my low risk trades has a lot more to with the risk/trade mgmt than the entry signals.
