So much for that solid proof. Did you really think you could "Debunk" the bible so easily? http://www.apologeticspress.org/apcontent.aspx?category=11&article=696
Sure I did. I was young and cocky- not to mention being more uninformed than I am today, which isn't really saying much.
I would like to remind you that you came here to a thread titled, 'What are your beliefs?'. You gave a generic statement proclaiming that you are able to exist independent of a higher power, or even other human beings. I then kindly expressed to you that I wished to further our dialog for educational purposes, and you said "ok". Your words and actions gave me the impression that you may have come here seeking some stimulating conversation, and I was happy to oblige. So my next logical step was to simply ask you to disclose a few details to help substantiate why you were able to confidently proclaim what seemed to be an unreasonable level of independence on your part. I must say for you to state that I have ruined some sort of buzz you had going on was a tad uncalled for, and I meant not to crash your party. You could have simply stated you weren't comfortable talking about your personal experiences here, and I would respect that. All the same, thank you for your input.
Does it really matter what someone believes (other than to him/herself, of course)? Besides, there is usually a large gulf between what someone believes and how he behaves. I have seen firebrand thumpers who say they believe in Jesus, but are just using it for the money, or to feel superior as if it bequeathed them some kind of moral authority. Their actions though, were pretty far from the teachings as far as I could tell..... So maybe the more relevant question would be - How do you behave? - and the answer would be right before your eyes.....
This is a question I can't answer for you. But if the answer is no, does anything we say matter? I would like to think there is some benefit that could come from hearing others' views, as well as expressing our own beliefs. If nothing else we learn something about one another, and perhaps ourselves, too. If it matters not, then it shouldn't hurt for you to tell us what you may believe or not believe I kindly disagree. This would create a paradoxical problem which cannot be solved, so long as we abide by the terms you have specified above. By behaving in a way that contradicts our beliefs is to ignore those beliefs. When we ignore our beliefs, then we essentially have no beliefs. I agree that there are inevitably many who prey upon others' beliefs in order to gain financially, and I think it does suck. However you would have to have some pretty irrefutable proof for you to state that you have witnessed such a travesty. Please feel free to share your stories, or any opposing views you may have here. A fair question indeed...but if what you say is true -that "there is usually a large gulf between what someone believes and how he behaves.", then the answer would be anything but obvious.

Well, I believe that one's beliefs only matter to oneself. What you hear as stated beliefs are actually OPINIONS. People do not ignore their beliefs - but often their behavior is in contradiction to those stated beliefs. To say otherwise is to believe people cannot be self-delusional. "Donât say things. What you are stands over you the while, and thunders so that I cannot hear what you say to the contrary. A lady of my acquaintance said, âI donât care so much for what they say as I do for what makes them say it.â - R. W. Emerson
