What are your beliefs?

  1. To say you don't believe in God, is different from saying you believe there is no god.

It is possible that both apply to your beliefs, but could you clarify, for the sake of understanding?

  2. I must say this perplexes me. It seems to me that free will would exist either way, and especially in the absence of God.

The scientist in me would have to think that free will would be even more prevalent in a universe without a god, as we will have removed the possibility that a powerful and influential deity could interfere with our decisions .

Edit: I think you may be saying that because you have no belief in God, then by default there is no belief in free will, as without God, it would simply be referred to as a decision, and not freewill.

    Do I have this right?

I've mentioned this before, but basic deduction proves the universe is no accident. The random motion of hydrogen atoms even over eons still could not produce the abomination that is the blue polyester leisure suit.

  5. How do you define free will? I mean you're born with a specific genetic code place in an unique environment. Is free will absent of genetics and environment? What basis is there to think that there would be something extra that gives people the ability to control their decisions?

  6. The freedom to make your own choices. To decide maybe even your own destiny or fate.

    How do you define it?

  7. I see it as decisions that could be made external of genetics and environmental influence.

  8. That's funny, Rictem. If that ^ was created in the image of God, then it would explain the existence of so many coca plants growing in Bogota. lol.

That brings up another point. Humor seems to separate us from most if not all animals. What is it? And Why do we (at least some of us), albeit often poor, have it?

So you believe in purpose, but Do you believe in God?

  9. The first one's easy enough, I think. Don't like your mustache that your mom genetically passed down to you? Then wax your upper lip.

environmental influence...hmmm...that is thought provoking. I appreciate your input on this, by the way.

  10. Then you believe in freewill you just don't have the balls to admit as such for whatever reason.

I posit it's because like all true believer liberals you cannot face up to the fact that you are responsible for your life, somebody else , thing or entity however is without YOUR consent.
