I have this thin book here for a year or so which I found at a thrift shop and I started to read tonight. The PULSE System Turning Pennies into Hundreds of Dollars Trading Options By Chris Verhaegh I figured it would be a silly amateur book to read and I may get a few giggles out of it. Fun fact, looks like the person who donated this didn't even read it as there isn't so much as a crease on it. The weird thing, is when I look at the author's books online for purchase, they are marked between $100-$1000. Seriously?!
So, I just finished reading the PULSE System now, lol. I didn't even get to figure out what that meant until I read the glossary at the back where he defines this: PULSE System - A propriety system for trading options. PULSE is an acronym for Potential for Profit, Upside Reward, Low Risk, Strategic Setup, Event / Entry & Exit. Well, the main gist of this all, is to trade AFTER an earnings report, because your options are cheaper to buy at that stage. Then buy an OTM option when the stock is CLOSE to the strike, because you make $ when your OTM options cross strikes and go ITM. Yup... that's it! If you have a strong conviction in direction, go buy calls or puts. But if you don't (in almost all cases), he wants you to buy straddles or strangles. Read the book for further details, and to find a bit more info on his news letter and training course? Haha. Some facts (by the author), he first worked at an investment firm when he got in as a mail-boy/clerk. Then later ended up at a precious metals trading desk. I suspect a lot of this could be an exaggeration, but who knows? If he's still trying to give out news letters today, then I'm more suspect than ever. That said, I read these books for entertainment, rather than education. So for that, I can't complain. Alas, now that I've got this book out of the way, I think I will choose another from my list of derivative books. 101 Option Trading Secrets by Kenneth Trester looks like the next bet.
Finished Trester's 101 Option Trading Secrets. I guess I know too much by now, since I don't really recall any secrets. This afternoon I found the following at a thrift shop. I may start into it tonight.
I just got this today from Amazon. I am not completely sure how I stumbled across it. I think I have a fetish for this kind of book by an intellectual heavyweight that is old and not very popular. I just can't resist that title though and a non-math book after looking at Ruelle's wiki page.
While we're on the topic of crazy and surreal, might I recommend the following title. Tortured Cardboard: How Great Board Games Arise from Chaos, Survive by Chance, Impart Wisdom, and Gain Immortality
After waiting for ages, I finally got my reserve from the library... Started last night and I found it very interesting. I'm now up to the part where Dalio was slamming his hands on the table during a conference and repeatedly calling out one of the women working there for being "stupid" as her diagnosis, lol.
That looks pretty interesting. This Chance and Chaos book is just a terrible name. This is a phenomenal little book that I wish I found a long time ago. It is like a compact summary of the main ideas from probability and information theory as they relate to non-linear dynamics by a super heavyweight mathematician. Ruelle coined the term "strange attractor". Chaos is just such an unfortunate name. I suspect it has set the field of dynamics back a generation.
