This argument of we deal with China, et al but not Cuba... Cuba is 90 miles off of the mainland. Sure you can see Russia from Sarah Palins house but it’s remote. Cuba is not remote. They are extremely close proximity. It makes relations with them very different. If we open up to them it makes it very easy for a lot of their fellow commie/authoritarian buddies to get even further into our country. No. Sorry. Cannot have that insecurity a quick boat ride away. The Chavistas or whatever they call themselves now have to go. They need to have some semblance of a democracy before we fully open.
"and their Revolution" --- are words that imply support for the Cuban Dictatorship, not for the protestors. Obviously "Cuddles" is reaching again.
Again... China.... Russia... Vietnam.....no problem so lets shit on the tiny island nation? Cuba is where you draw the line now?
GQP: "the people are protesting in the streets to fight communism" Also GQP: "by "the people" the DSA really means the government you see, and by "supporting the revolution" they actually mean the government cracking down on them".
I see that the Cuban regime has rolled out old Raul Castro from the mothball fleet to help counter the image that the regime is old and behind the times. womp...womp. Yeh, the Joe Biden of Cuba. Maybe he and Joe can meet and go for a ride. I am pretty sure they both own 1956 Chevy Bel Airs. Raul would have a few cadillacs for personal use too. On a somewhat more serious and practical note, the CIA analysts will be watching that scenario bigtime to see how the new guy either is or is not in charge. To squelch protests, Cuba rolls out 90-year-old Raul Castro. How archaic https://www.miamiherald.com/opinion/editorials/article252762393.html
I wouldn’t say where I personally draw the line but I do factor in national security when I think about this stuff. We need Cuba to not be a threat, at least from the people in charge of the government. I have nothing against the Cuban people but giving that type of money to the regime in power would only strengthen their hold on power. There’s a reason why our relations with Cuba have been the way they are for so long. It’s not to punish the Cuban people, it’s for our own protection.
Yes... the DSA "supporting the revolution" is outlining their support the repressive Cuban government and not those protesting against it. This is obvious from not only this particular statement... but all of their previous statements.
Cuba has not been a threat since the early 1960s.... the reason why our relations have been the way they are for so long is because our government does what it always does... caters to people to win an election (such as the south florida rich cubans) and then moves on to their own personal shit. Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump... none of them have any fear of Cuba or give a shit... it was just to win one state in the election. Cuba is not a threat at all but China is but we embrace them in trade and commerce since the 1970s... Cuba does not have any military power or weapons. We shoved a military base down their throat and they had no choice to accept it. Cuba has never been a threat, sadly the U.S. just knows what it is told. How can you tell me we need Cuba not to be a threat first before we do anything and China and Afghanistan and Pakistan are ok??? Seriously.....I think people who speak on this subject have not done the research or even visited the country.
