We already have cultural and humanitarian to a small extent. Only thing is for both countries to sit down, end the embargo and open up the country and condition all benefits on openness. Cubans would rather have American quality? Not sure what American quality you are referring to haha. Americans been rejecting Cubans for 6o years. China is not selling dollar store crap, they are selling them busses for their transportation system, cars for taxis and building hotels which bring in revenue and jobs. Same with Spanish (Spain) companies. America could push all that away by opening up business.
Cuba has a good oil reserves in the Caribbean. If things do change there is no way Biden could help Cuba develop that field Biden wants oil production nowhere near the US.
America does not even have to do much effort... open up restrictions and Marriott, Hilton, Ford, Caterpillar, GE and various other companies would move in quite easily. Only thing would be aid to rebuild the ports and airports and infrastructure which would provide a lot of economic stimulus. It starts with tourism (hotel, infrastructure, transportation) and then some industrial production sites. Then weekly service between Miami and Havana port for barges and containerhips. US under any president has not done much because they are all afraid of a small group of cuban americans in Florida who are vocal. I am half cuban and think it is time to stop being hypocrites with Vietnam and China and Russia and rejoin Cuba.
There are a lot of factors in motion now that were not in motion in the past. The passing of the fidel era of note. There are possibilities. They need to handle themselves well though because those of cuban background or connection may have a hunger to see certain things happen but the rest of America is just sort of okay with it. "Okay" can be good sometimes if people play it well. Fidel and that crew used to like to do a Iranian jihad chant everyday and after every interaction with Americans. That's fine. The next day Americans were off thinking about something else and the Cubans were back to where they have been for the last 60 years. It is more than I want to get into in posts, but also of note, is Cuba's long and deeply entangled relationship with Venezuela. The cubans hooked their wagon to the soviet union that collapsed on them and did not have as much cash for them as they needed. But VZ was rich and hugo was powerful so they tried to milk or make that arrangement work for them too and then VZ turned out to be not-so-rich and worthless. The leadership between the two countries is tight but there is not much economic development going on between two broke countries. Time for Cuba to find a partner who is not a loser even if it is not the U.S. No punchline here. Just sayin there are a lot of moving parts now and smart countries will try to play them to their advantage. It comes at a time when the U.S and VZ also need to figure something out and that will have implications roundabout for Cuba posture on certain things. Could be for the good and if so fine but they should try for some diplomacy. Personally, I still think they are one step away from being able to go forward. This current clown who was installed by the Castros needs to go to fully break the legacy and be able to deal with both the Cubans and the Americans on uncontaminated terms. If they could get rid of him, sooner rather than later, that would be great. If not, well, keep driving that 1956 Chevy BelAir.
Cuba would love, I mean Love, LOVE, LLLLLOVE, to have our agricultural, medical, mechanical, chemical, petro, building, industrial, technological goods. The list never ends. Access to our engineers and doctors to boot. Make no mistake American means quality. Why do you think the green back is the reserve capital of choice. It ain’t our good looks. It’s because it spends in the good ole USA.
They might like to have Trump Tower Havana too. We can all agree that that would be special, eh? It would not be the first time Trump started down that road in Havana. And he is back in the real estate business again. https://theconversation.com/before-trump-was-anti-cuba-he-wanted-to-open-a-hotel-in-havana-94689 Ocho, here ya go. Lookin good!
Trade communism for fascism seems like a bit of a stretch. Let’s just hope for some form of representative democracy before we curse them with the orange turd.
