Pakistani agents detain five Americans over possible terror links

    AP Published: 2009/12/10 08:30:46 AM

Pakistani intelligence agents are interrogating five detained Americans over possible links to extremists.

U.S. officials believe the five are young men who went missing more than a week ago from their homes in the northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Pakistan police say the five men were staying at a house in the eastern city of Sarghoda believed to be used by the Jaish-e-Mohammed militant group. Jaish has alleged links to al-Qaida and has traditionally focused on targets in India, Pakistan's longtime rival.

Two police officials said Thursday the men were cooperating after first giving conflicting statements.

They said investigators seized a laptop computer and extremist literature from the house.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the subject's sensitivity.
