We'll probably never get rid of endemic diseases. Does that mean the Gates Foundation are fools throwing away their money to try to help get rid of some endemic diseases? We'll probably never end world hunger, does that mean we shouldn't try to help the hungry? We'll probably never have world peace, does that mean we shouldn't try to prevent conflicts and mediate those that are already in progress? Unless one is a complete nihilist, the fact that something is very hard and maybe not even fully achievable is no reason to throw our hands up and become quitters.
