Many Americans do not know that Canada buys specific products from specific states in the United States. Thus, Canada have been targeting "red states" and "blue states with Republican governors" by pulling their products from Canada's shelves...continuously without the drama shit that Trump has been doing with his pauses after he was the one who started the Tariff War. I've seen this in my own province (Québec). As a citizen of both the United States and Canada...many products from America are no longer sold in stores here in Québec resulting in local stores who only sell Canadian products to hire more employees to manage the increasing demand for "Made in Canada" products. The goal is to have Republicans put the pressure on Trump to stop with the threats of buying/invading Canada, tariff threats, name calling of the Prime Minister et cetera...disrespecting Canada by a U.S. President. I live in an area where a lot of Québec separatists reside who prefer to be known as Quebecors instead of as Canadians. In addition, there are many U.S. military veterans who are dual citizens living here too. Yet, since Trump started his Tariff War bullshit...separatists have now been calling themselves "Proud Canadians". My point, Trump only united all of Canada, increased production of "Made in Canada" products to replace American products et cetera while bitching about less than 1% fentanyl crossing the Canadian border and +23,000 illegal immigrants crossed the northern border while 60% of Canada's illegal firearms come's from the United States...facts that Trump does not talk about especially allowing illegal firearms into Canada. Another fact about Canada, violent crimes involving shootings in Canadian cities is directly related to the number of illegal firearms from the United States crossing the Canadian border. A minority of Canadians cite the "firearm issue" as their main reason for not wanting anything to do with the United States because the U.S. will only bring its high violent crime rate to Canada by increasing its firearm sells to Canadians. Rate of violent crime by murder in Canada and the United States 2000-2023 There were 6.3 homicides in the U.S. in 2022 and 2.27 homicides in Canada per 100,000. United States 6.30 per 100,000 in comparison to Canada's 2.27 per 100,000 Today, I see more "truckers' who truck Canadian products from one region of Canada into Québec...they have anti-American slogans and Canadian flags. In contrast, my relatives and friends in the United States say they do not see an equivalent American patriotism like that in the states except near the U.S. military bases and VA hospitals/clinics...something they're use to seeing since 911. Another way to look at this, more division in the United States while Canadians are becoming more united. wrbtrader
Trump just made Canada nationalist. Trump wants you to fight him and stand on your own. Reverse globalism, just imagine Europe as it was in the old days and an angry Japan. Come on commies, can't you smell what Trump is cooking.
As far as I know, there is no one on the Canadian side of the border checking you when you head into the US. Likewise when you go from the US to Mexico or Canada there is no one checking you on the US side of the border. How do you propose either country stop the flow of drugs or guns into the nieghboring country? As far as guns are concerned, the Canadian government has done a good job of disarming their citizens. If anyone wanted to invade who will stop them?
It would really be interesting if this is his goal. But somehow, I think all he is trying to do is negotiate a better deal. If these unintended consequences materialize, and every country becomes more self sufficient, I think this bring down the entire monetary system, although this might be the intended end result. Maintaining USD as the world reserve currency requires the US to poke their nose into everything. Its clearly been bad for the US in the long term, having to supply dollars to the rest of the world, and this is all described in Triffin's dilemma. So with the US no longer wanting to play this role of exporting dollars at the expense of your own country, there will be a new system that replaces it. This is I think the end result of all of this, perhaps still decades away, but once you go down this road, there is no turning back.
Actually, the two systems started working together about 10 years ago. But that is not really "checking" on you once you cross, but they do know when you crossed the border, what car you drove, how often you go. I cross about 5 times a year into Canada for the last 30 years. I like being in a country where people don't feel the need to arm themselves and are more interested in hockey, the outdoors and generally just living a good normal life. It is a "Commonwealth" country.
