Weinstein Trading and Fading

  1. Lots of trades today in this up market

The market moved higher today in a very strong and relentless way for much of the morning. I received many short signals and at times was short six stocks at once. I did not try to fade the market in general and unless I tried to do that near the end of day I would have had my head handed to me. I am still short a few shares of TUP and will be looking for a retrace of the move higher to close out and maybe even take some gains.

For the trend traders today must have been a trading paradise. Up up and away all day long. Of course those trying to short “Turn around Thursday” found out the meaning of the odds are in the favor vs. a ’sure thing’.

I had a news release trade with VCI that worked out really well. It also appears that the SEC has made some headway with HAR and has sued someone over the events from Sunday/Monday

All in all not a lot of big numbers but on a big up day like today I am glad to be able to be shorting / fading stocks and still be able to grab a good day overall. I think it will be interesting to see what the market does tomorrow after all this buying that was done this week.

Mr. W, Notice how your ONE losing trade was TUP. I believe moms everywhere would agree that shorting Tupperware is like shorting Mom or Apple Pie. :D

  3. NoDoji,

    Interesting point. LOL

I am happy to report that TUP did turn into a good trade overall as I gained much of the loss back in after hours trading as I covered and then covered the rest today for a nice gain : o )

I hope you have a great weekend and look forward to chatting with you Monday

  4. Trading went well today overall and I am ready for the weekend

I closed out of TUP and that worked out well. I closed out of some in AH trading last night and brought my result to about even. So it turned into a nice trade.
    TUP + 669

I tried fading SPWRA and that didnt work out well. IB ran out of shares to borrow and that threw a wrench into my program. I was in the end pretty happy to be able to work my way out of it with the hit I did take.
    SPWRA – 1175

I changed over from GE 13 AUG calls to the 12 calls as a result of the run up we have had. I was able to take some of the time premium since I wrote them a few weeks ago (with GE at about the same price as today) and lower my risk with GE which currently has a true cost basis of under 12 per share but some of that has been realized already
GE calls change over + 428

I also had two nice trading signals that worked out very well. I especially was happy that some adjustments to my algorithm seemed to be perfectly tuned to both of these trades.

  6. Hello Mephistophilis,

Thanks for the kind words. Its been a busy week and full of adventure thats for sure.

You bring up an important point in that we are more than the value of our last trade and that we all can overcome those land mines that go off in our path from time to time.

As someone reminded me with a PM said "what doesnt kill us makes us stronger" and thats so true.

We are so lucky to be able to make a living doing what we do. I am very thankful that I get to do what I love even with the setbacks.

Have a great weekend and best of trading to you

    Respectfully,

    Robert

  7. Hello Teleskop,

Well let me say thanks for taking the time to post here now. I am glad you enjoy the journal and I am humbled that after three years of being on ET I get your first post. Thank you

I talked to the SEC today and spent some time on their website (plan to spend more in the near future but been very busy this week).

It appears that they have a group that they allege engaged in sending out the false buyout press release. Along with that they were able to get over $5mil frozen until there can be a hearing to see if the money will remain frozen until more court proceedings / resolution.

My understanding is that when the SEC recovers money from a fraud that they attempt to distribute the money to the victims.

Here is a link of current cases that the SEC is working on to return funds http://sec.gov/divisions/enforce/claims.htm

As this is a new area for me I would have to say that I am not expecting to recover anything. If in fact the SEC is able to win this case and I get some of the funds lost back I will be impressed.

If they have the right people I have a lot of respect for the SEC being able to act so quickly and effectively in being able to lock down as much money as they did. $5 million out of a total of about $30 million in trading during pre market is pretty impressive IMHO

Thanks again and have a great weekend

    Best of trading to you

    Robert

  8. Hello Brocklanders,

Thank you for posting the link and I followed up on it.

After talking with the SEC today it does appear that when they recover money their goal is to give it back to those that lost money.

I am pretty far from knowing what the outcome of this will be but I would guess that there is some chance of some recovery.

I was also advised that even when there is recoveries made that it can take years before it happens which was of no surprise.

As for the SEC, I called and left a message with a couple of numbers that were listed as contact numbers and I received a call back within about two hours so I have to give credit to the SEC for taking the time to get back with me so quickly.

I will keep everyone updated as things play out in this.

I wish you a great weekend and the best in trading

    Respectfully,

    Robert

  9. Hello TraderSU,

Thanks for your kind words and I would agree. Hopefully some recovery will be made.

I also want to thank you for your help with my updating my scans. I plan on spending some time this weekend working on it (as well as playing some football with my 5 and 7yr old bodyguards...)

    Have a great weekend

    Robert

  10. Bob no disrespect but i wouldn't hold my breath getting one cent back.Every person who was short who covered from july 1st on when the scam of buying up the calls started could claim they were defrauded and want there money back. Rumours and manipulation are part of the game. If they were eroneous trades arca would have busted the trades. IF THEY GAVE YOU A PENNY BACK IT WOULD SET A PRECEDENT WERE ALL COULD CLAIM FRAUD ON MANIPULATED TRADES AND WANT THERE MONEY BACK. Also sorry to say you were a short seller and they're not going to look highly on that.
