Weinstein Trading and Fading

Discussion in 'Journals' started by Robert Weinstein, May 5, 2008.

  1. Hedged my MAKO position today, still underwater, but the hedge will bring me to the surface absent another strong push down. I also took some gains in my sim account.

I am not (again) enjoying IB a whole lot.

I received a promotion from Lightspeed. Even after the promotion the rates are about the same or lower than IB once ticket charges and everything are factored in.

I don't want to go prop because of compliance management issues.

Any comments or experiences would be great.

  2. Why are you not enjoying IB? I have no issues with them at all. They are the best of any retail shop out there.

I traded prop for 4.5 years and left in March. Unless you need the leverage and trade millions of shares / month, it makes no sense to go prop.

  3. right, I am not interested in prop because I am writing about stocks, but my issue is the platform and especially the confirmation to trade with book trader

The other issue is ticket cost. 400-500 share lots to knock out the min ticket cost.

I like to scale in and out of trades and prefer 100-200 shares. Lastly, I like to pick a venue for option trading.

Anyway, I heard good things about light speed and thought I would ask. I am looking at others, but their promotion caught my eye.

  4. TheStreet has a live blog for facebook IPO,

Anyone who believes trading is dead hasn't read the comments coming in. There are a lot of people interested in stocks who appear ready to buy stocks who are totally new to the world of investing.

There is over 4K people in there right now....wow (not all newbies). Plus these are the smart ones. At least they know how to find thestreet

    10 mins until blast off.

Trading is far from dead. There are always a few names going crazy every single day, even in the summer.

The folks who think it is dead watch the same things every day. I'll never understand why.

    FB indicated 44.

  7. Hey Badger,

Are you going to trade it? I don't think I am touching it. without being able to short, I see no edge. You?

Nope. The only way I'll do anything is if it consolidates and then breaks higher. But I don't see that happening.

EDIT: The consolidation part, that is.

  9. TheStreet live blog has over 8000 people in it, I can't keep up reading the comments but it appears a fair number opened a brokers account just to buy this one. It's insane

Oh how I wish i had a piece of the IB business on this one......

Looks like we are going to have a nice weekend here. Too bad I have to ride to SD for the weekend

So much for the consolidation and the subsequent move higher. :D

Just a couple of buyers here at 38.

Yes it should be nice. Need some rain though. I drove through your neck of the woods yesterday. The dust coming off of the farm fields was ridiculous.
