thanks for reply Robert , the reason why I asked about 52 week high is that a smoothly trending stock can be at a new 52 week high almost everyday for weeks , perhaps you mean the first time a stock hits a new 52 week high?

  3. Wow, I will admit I had to think for a moment to provide a response. So far up to now people have said "congrats" or "nice house" or some other equally pleasant comment.

Yours is the first to question my personal finances. So congrats to you for being the first to do so.

Coming to a conclusion without seeing much of the puzzle can lead one to think things that may not be accurate. As this is a trading site and my trading journal I will say I did well in 08, did ok in 09 (>10% TWR) and I have no idea how 10 will be any more than anyone else but I have a gain so far and my trading has much improved since Feb 22nd. Trading in of itself may not have bought me a house yet but I could see getting another rental later this year to help offset gains.

As for buying a house I am not licensed in Michigan or outside of Wisconsin. Come to Wisconsin and pay a retainer and I will show you how to buy a house.

I do wish you well though.

  5. I of course would like to move to Vegas as you may recall.

I don't wish to move there as much as I once did and now Reno or maybe Texas sounds better considering my family.

I should probably stick to real estate as it has always been good to me but I have to admit I love trading more.

  7. Busy day today

The biggest thing today was the mistake I made with DBD. An incorrect report by Bloomberg stated that the SEC had some accounting issues with DBD but as it turns out it was old news and it was settled today. I should have walked away with a loss about half the one I took but since it was trading weak and under the 200MA I did not think any rally was in the cards. I was wrong and while I tried to trade my way through it I was not able to when it found some upward movement with the rest of the market. I am still short some shares so it may end up better or worse but I will get out tomorrow regardless as I do not have a reason any longer to be in it and I will do what I should have done. I can’t complain to much as this often works but is bound to cost me once in a while. Indeed at times it was working and I had cut my hit. Otherwise it was pretty much a standard day lately. I was watching the BP video, trading BP and made a few other trades. I ended the day long some BP stock and wrote a couple more BP puts. The IV is so high on the options that even if the prices do get there it would be hard to make money unless the whole tent folds for BP. I did cover most of my overnight with BP in premarket trading and then both went long and short during different times with BP stock but only added to the naked puts today. With any luck (not that they have had much so far) we will see some progress with BP tomorrow/Friday and a stock price above 40

AMGN gap up oversold + 71
    BP + 1006
DBD – 4243 lesson learned with that
    GNA + 41
    RIG + 67

    - 3056

I once read a book that listed "day trader" and "real estate agent" as the number one and two jobs with highest attrition rate :p

  9. Henry,

For me its what it is on any given day. So for my trading if it is making a new 52W high on that day it is usually not the first day in a series as you suggest. On gap ups though the gap is often a new 52W high without needing the day before to be also.

    Best
