  2. Not a bad day

One oversold signal today with REV but I was late on the entry as it came from a back up scanning computer that looks for stocks not in the main list. This ended up meaning that I only was able to get about half the normal gains for it.
    REV + 156

no gap up trades today. Its probably been over a month since that has happened but nothing came up on my scanner. Kinda funny too as the market was up. I will be looking at LVS tomorrow as they reported after the bell and I almost jumped on that when it moved down after great numbers.

I had two long trades from oversold stocks. About a month ago I started looking at my long signals that I developed and stopped using due to some of the large drawdowns. I tightened up the criteria and so now I don’t get as many signals but the ones I do get are much better.
I bought COCO almost at the bottom and held very little pain at the worst point with small share size. What I really liked about this trade is that it was beaten down and gave me a oversold signal at the same time that it reported better than expected earnings. The industry was down today and that overshadowed COCOs great reporting. This made me comfortable going into the trade with the thought that I could carry overnight. As it turns out I did get a full target with it and closed out nicely. share size was small as are all my longs
    COCO + 318
GT again for the second day in a row gave an oversold signal. This was one of those trades where I just didn’t trust my instruments because I was unwilling to go more than 200 shares with it at the entry price. As it turns out it never went more than two or three cents lower after I entered and to make matters worse I didn’t let it go for a full profit target which ended up costing me about $40 left on the table.
    GT + 95

Tomorrow is the last day of the month and so far (knock on wood) I have made it through the month without any losers. Not that you can put the amount of winners in the bank or spend them but after going into the tailspin of the previous three months its nice to close this out with a gain. Especially since I put my new program in place with trading.
If things go well for another two weeks then I will start to ramp up the size again but go in stages of every two weeks of adding and evaluating.

  3. Hello bwolinsky,

Thanks for your post and I would like to say that your doing a great job with your journal.

I was on covester. I think the covester idea is great. but I left because they had not finished working on the stats and that the time weighted average is incorrect.
They did say to me that they were working on getting that feature finished. so I left covester BECAUSE my results were not being reported correctly and it was possible to "game" the system and I did not want to be a part of that.

In the last year I have emailed a couple of times to get a status and was told that they were not ready yet. I was also told that they would email me when they had it ready. I was listed as one of the top traders there but if the stats can't be trusted what difference does it make. (I am in no way suggesting that anyone is actually doing anything unethical to make their numbers appear better than they are.)

I am sure at some point they will have it finished and I will once again be back with covester as we parted on very good terms. In fact I was impressed at how much time they took with me with this issue and how professional they are. So I will go back but not before they can have a reasonably accurate picture of performance and not have some scandal come out that the NAV has been manipulated to enhance performance.

My goal in posting results was to build a performance track record and to act like a hedge fund (showing numbers daily). Now that I am finishing up my undergrad (again) and plan to go to law school my hedgefund goals have been put off for a while. so don't be too surprised if I stop posting everyday on ET and just stick with my blog.

My third son was born about a month ago and I have two other young sons so between my family, trading, and school my plate is pretty fun.

    Best to you sir.

  5. searching for list of NYSE, NASDAQ stocks for any given year.

for example if I want to do backtesting on a todays list I will not have LEH and others that went away through the years.

I would ideally like to get in text (comma or line delimited) the lists for each year from about 1995 and beyond. Having a set date like all stocks on the exchange on Jan 1st would be perfect.

Any help would be great thank you

I want to be able to back test using each year as a "group" and so each group needs to be complete.

  6. first losing day in about six weeks today.

Started out well with HGSI with the gap up trade.
    + 642

later on YRCW came onto the radar with a big down day. Started fading the move down and it kept falling through the day although I did bank some very small gains early on. once it bacame close to the closing bell I decided to just walk away and not hold overnight.

  7. Hello Mr. Winston

Nice to see that again you are on your way to green numbers. if i were at your place, i dont think i would be trading now:D . Did you make any modification to your system or is it your calm and cool mind that waited for right time for profitable trades...

    thank you

  9. Pretty good day today

starting out on the wrong side with my carryover of BDK from afterhours but was able to close out at breakeven during the opening fall.

CTSH was my gap up trade for today. worked out well but did not put any size on it.
    + 114

PEET gave me an overbought signal and it was trading with a large bid/ask spread and when I received notice of it it was way above the entry point so i put a little bit greater size on the trade and I also moved my target beyond my normal area. Turned into a great trade. I then went on to trade it a few more times as the price never actually fell to the point of not being overbought and the bid/ask gap was huge at times.
    + 748

HGSI moved into overbought but I didn’t like how it was moving so when it did go into the money for me I put a stop loss near B/E which ended up getting triggered and I was out with a small gain. + 19

I did go long with ENER and placed a stop limit at just above BE which was hit right before it moved up beyond my profit target…..lol

  10. LAW SCHOOL! Are you crazy? Oh , that's right you trade for a living so obviously crazy. :D I've had the debate of law school for years, but keep putting it off. I'm not sure what the point for it would be other than to do it, but I have that urge also. Any reason why you are thinking of that route? Or that you care to share. My wife just handed in her thesis for her masters so I guess now would be the time for me, unless she decides to be a late in life medical student. That thought makes me cry. :p
Good to see you taking the size down and getting back to it!
