Weekly results of a wanna B algo trader

  1. Since we had a down day yesterday (1st one after this huge run) we obviously had to close at another high today. Could have been another really bad day for my systems but I got lucky and hedged with seven S&P E minis yesterday so that helped reduce the loss today.
This is the first week where I'm implementing the new money management for S10 and S11, so we'll see if/how that helps (got some strange executions today on the weekly's, I hope this isn't another bug in my code).

  2. Good trading week (up 3k1). Got lucky when my S10 trade closed Thursday morning and the market didn't take off yet. Obviously the one red day on Wednesday will be followed by another serious up run, since that's all this market does. Go up because the future is that fucking great.

On my daily blog I've about 5 visitors per day right now, so they must all be from here since I didn't post the link anywhere else. Only difference to this here is that I blog daily and post my daily P&L.
I'm in the process of upgrading my thinkorswim account to portfolio margin, so with that I'll be about 40 grand in debt again (my debt free time was short lived ;-) ) I've also adjusted my system performance, since all systems but S2 report accurately, I just gave the outstanding profits to S2 (I'll try to do a better job with this next year).

I'm done working for the year, so while my systems will trade next week I won't hit the road again till next year.
For all the ones following this journal, I hope you guys did well and I hope you'll have a good weekend and relaxing time before the holidays.

  3. Bad trading week (Down 2k3). Gave up most of last weeks profits. As expected the market went up every day which hurt my positions. Then today it actually went down (2 SPX points, I know this is ridiculous to even call this a down day) and I still lost money
Glad when this year is over, I'm almost done with the account restructuring. I'll continue this journal and my current S&P comparison into next year, I don't like to start new just cause the S&P is ahead of me, it's better to look at this as an opportunity to improve my trading strategies.
I'll be back in the mountains next week, so at least I get some really good work out time and family time, that's about the best that's going on on this end, everything else isn't that great right now.
I'd be interested to get a poll on how many folks beat the S&P since June, so if you want bragging rights, just post your performance since June and some details (nbr of trades and % gain on your trading capital).
For all the ones following this journal, I hope you guys did well and I hope you'll have a good weekend and relaxing time during the holidays.

  4. Good trading week (up 2k7). The best thing about this week was that I was skiing every single day and made money while my systems were running (except today). Too bad it's not always that easy ;-). This is the last post for this year, I'll start a new thread next year. Some things will change. First I'll include an additional strategy (S3) into the mix and will drop S70. More important is that I increased my trading account by about 50k, so the good news is that I've portfolio margin now in both accounts (thinkorswim and InterActiveBrokers), the bad news is that I am about 35k in debt again after being debt free (I hope by May I'll be back to debt free).
So the new account will need to survive without capital infusion which should make accounting much easier. Yesterday I looked at my trading goals for 2010 and I have to say I've missed them all (at least I was shooting high). My two goals were making 60k for 2010 and having 10 profitable month. Well, unfortunately (after the May 6th crash) I've just seven month of documentation since I've burned the pre May 6 docs ;-) (actually I still have it but I know I didn't meet my goals) and in the seven month I've made 23k and only had four profitable month. I did take a huge portion out of my trading account tough (after May 6th), so the 60k was when my account was about 30% larger.
    Anyway, similar goals for 2011.
    - 50k in net profit (after commission before taxes) and
    - 10 profitable trading month, we'll see if this goes better this time around.

I'll add one additional goal which is better record keeping. I'm excited about the new year, so look forward to a new thread.
I will not reset my comparison against the S&P 500, right now I'm trailing the S&P performance by about three grand, however that index had a nice run since June and it has a huge benefit of being invested fully all the time. I am hoping by this time next year I'll be in the lead though. If you want to see daily P&L (not that daily P&L should really matter) you can always follow my blog @ http://theclosetgambler.com.
Next week work starts again, so I'll be starting my traveling, first stop will be Houston (Tue-Friday). I don't expect big changes other than hopefully a more active market.
