A handful of criminals, a tiny percentage of an area's population, are typically responsible for 90% of the area's crime. Ideas have consequences. Everything you said does not eliminate the possibility, not far-fetched at all, that you yourself are a total supporter of these ideas, but that you simply don't have the kahoneys to formally join. The fact remains, they consider themselves conservatives, and that is likely not the result of a coin flip.

  3. Fox news. Many cable companies will not let people receive the channel if the subscribers IQ is above 5. If they still insist on receiving FOX news they must bring into the cable companies local office a letter from their parents or parole officer. :p

Yep, it's a "wash". So now we can get back to comparing relative risk. It's a well documented observation in risk perception study that people tend to minimize risk in situations where they believe they have control. So we have greater anxiety about getting killed by a terrorist than we have about driving, though the math indicates this is backwards.

Terrorism on our soil is new, driving is not. We will react to terrorism and drive its probability down to where the cost balances the benefit. This has been done for driving. Therefore driving will continue to be the deadlier activity.

On the other hand, miring our entire army, and reserves, in a foreign adventure/occupation gone very badly, and thereby creating and training more terrorists than we ever dreamed possible in less time then we could imagine, we could argue that the risk of terrorism is actually rising rapidly.

Perhaps a different approach to terrorism, the cheap and probably interminable result of technology and mass society, would be in order.

  9. Without tax breaks and the terror/war cards the right wing would be kaput.

How many right wingers would have voted for Bush without the tax cuts?

The truth hurts. The part of the conservative agenda (read BS ) that really makes fools out of the followers is the part where Bush has them believing in values of the conservatives. Spare me please!!!!!

    BYE, BYE ...as John would say..............:p :p :p :)

  10. I think right wingers and left wingers are all fucked up.

I think old Chinese philosophy is what this country really needs.

Spiritual nourishment. To journey into our inner souls to find real happiness.

The West, specially Americans expect happiness just because they are alive or they think is the government's job, or expect it from their wives or husbands. If not, they do drugs or alcohol or probably think TV shows would do the job...

Americans are unhappy because they are always looking to the outside.

It has happened to mankind through the centuries. When times are good we become complacent and forget to be humble and take all the good we have for granted. The sad part is that America doesn't have a culture of learning from other cultures. If it did, old chinese philosophy would be required in all schools.

    :)
